Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. (55-8, 40KOs) could care less about Saturday's opponent at the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland. As BoxingScene.com/Bokser.org reported last week, the scheduled opponent Dawid Kostecki (39-1, 25 KOs) was arrested for being the ringleader of a criminal organization. Jones will now likely face light heavyweight contender Pawel Glazewski (17-0, 4 KOs). But the American veteran is willing to fight any live body that is placed in front of him this weekend.
Glazewski, who was already in shape, accepted the fight and starting working out a strategy days ago. In a show of good will, Jones plans to visit Kostecki in jail.
"When I agreed to fly to Poland and fight, I was serious. It does not matter whether the opponent is Glażewski, Kostecki, or even Andrew Golota. I'm coming out to the ring to fight and win. I had no hesitation about participating in this event. Kostecki is the main reason why I flew to Poland. He found himself in trouble and it wouldn't be right to turn our backs on him. I realize that staying in jail is a hard thing, but to fight with Roy Jones is an even bigger nightmare," Jones said.
