No one saw guardians because of him. That movie was his breakout role. They saw it because Marvel and word of mouth.
He just happened to do Jurassic World next which would have done numbers regardless because dinosaurs and it had been 14 years since the last one.

He was skinny before Parks n Recs. His weight fluctuates but he started out in Hollywood as the skinny attractive white guy. I'm pretty sure he was a model before he got fat. He mentioned doing it on purpose because he was getting typed cast as pretty boy douche bags.I think it was Zero Dark Thirty that changed people's image of him. He showed he could be that physically fit serious lead. It's almost like he was faking his fatness on Parks n Recs

He's pretty charming, funny, and comes across as authentic. That's not common in Hollyweird, home of the fakery. I do think he probably can act, but has been pigeonholed, but it's a really comfy lucrative pigeonhole, so he probably doesn't mind.
