So the longshoremen are about to go on strike on the East and Gulf coasts.

I would like to know this too
Where I’m from , you start by getting a twic card. Then head to ILA and talk with the guy running it. Once you get in the system, you have 4 chances to get work. Once in the morning and then different time frames through out the day. But if your a new guyand haven’t earned a number on the floor so your first to get picked for work. They stick you behind a gate, and you literally beg the Forman to pick you and take your number. I’m talking, I seen guy climbing and screaming to get noticed to get picked . shyt was wild!!!!!

You cannot justify this while claiming the workers are being greedy.

“Industry profits topped $400 billion from 2020 to 2023, which is believed to be more than the industry had previously made in total since containerization started in 1957”

:mjlol: this is just a ridiculous way to frame things. like read that out and actually wonder why it makes sense

This union head is out here enjoying the fact that he has a chance to, and I’ll quote him, cripple you. The sooner we can automate folks like that out of those positions the better. Save that tough talk for the companies you are trying to get more from. Not for the average joe, who in your region has just suffered a catastrophic hurricane
Yeah, something about dude is off. The delusion of grandeur has already Intoxicated him. watch him, there'smore to his story...

Bingo.

It's hard work but it's not like you need to study circuits, o-chem, molecular bio etc. They do a dangerous job but.....they'll fukk around and overplay their hand.

If they were making $50k/year doing all that work, folks would side with em. Ain't nobody finna cry over a gang of union nikkas making $200k/yr + awesome benefits. You got M.S. and PhD's that aint touching that.

White collar folks that had to grind the books and blue collar women give zero fukks.

At some point these unions need to chill the fukk out. The more the workers gets paid the more leadership has to pay middle mangment more $ to make it worth it for them. That's more $ they have to spend which either is going to get passed off to the consumer or result in layoffs to offset the price. The higher the wages go the quicker they are forcing leadership to transition to automation. If these dudes already making 200k then they need to shut the fukk up and keep their head down for the betterment of everyone. Ask for a 7% raises each year and call it a day otherwise you better believe by the next contract that union workforce will be slashed.

:rudy: i'm supposed to feel bad for these dudes? what the fukk?

they AVERAGE 200k a year, plus another 100k worth of benefits and pension?

i don't think the public is gonna side with them
I think it's more about automation. They probably see the writing on the wall that many of their positions will be taken over by automation.

Thing with automation though. You can't automate everything without creating a new generation of unskilled labor.
Eventually we'll hit an intersection where customers are to poor to buy products and business gets further consolidated into fewer companies
