So the longshoremen are about to go on strike on the East and Gulf coasts.

when did i say it wasn't important. if anything i said this was in the oven for nearly 6 years - people were in here acting like this deadline wasn't meant to hit at the peak of election season.

and they're getting a bump no one else is because their leverage is at a level *no one else's will ever be* lol. if we're at the argue for the sake of arguing point in this now then find all the posts in here saying these guys can kick rocks
The deadline has nothing to do with the election. 6 years, which used to be 3 years, are not presidential election cycles.

We've been at the arguing for the sake of arguing point due to the energy in here.

Why do you have this kind of hostility for the workers asking for a bigger piece of what their industry generates?

The shipping magnates ain’t starving.
I have zero issue with them wanting more money. I hate them trying to ban automation. I support human progress. Like I’ve said we don’t have milk men , icemen, knocker uppers, etc. Pay them but the other thing:camby:

People still think it's going.
I don't know how they can be up to date on events and then not be

6 years is the contract, not the election cycle. Clearly. They signed early in 2018 for a reason - and told their members to prepare for the strike last summer for the same reason.

Its not a conspiracy. Its intelligent leverage. If you could force two potential administrations to address your dispute on a national stage to add visibility and volume to your platform, you'd do it. If we're giving them credit, give them all of it. Acting like this is coincidence is unserious.

Thank you...6 years is the contract, not election cycle.

You're making my argument for me, your mind is simply made up on a conspiracy that doesn't exist. Acting like they didn't see automation in other ports in the world last summer and anticipated shipping lines trying to sneak it here, or that inflation wasn't inflating last summer and a COL adjustment wasn't needed is even more unserious.

because in 2018 they had no idea there would be in an election wrapping up in late 2024? Seriously? cmon

and the economy is literally always going to be a central focus :dead: name an election when it isn't. that is not a conspiracy, that is an effective long-range plan to amplify leverage at its peak.

and i even posted an article in here detailing how the great lakes deal and national retail association's petition played into this too lol... but what do i know

Breh...

Every 6 years. This means 2012, 2006, 2000, 1994, 1988, etc. Some of these are election years, some are not. Period.

I was just thinking how this was a great example of the bizarrely lopsided media coverage in this country.

If Trump was in office, it would be played right now as an example of how he's an amazing dealmaker and convinced everyone to come to the table and hammer things out by force of personality alone. But because Biden's in office, it's played as the Democrats getting lucky and dodging a bullet.

Other than old Bush in 1991 and young Bush in 2008, I feel like every single economic cycle has gone the same way. Democrats preside over almost constant economic growth and never get credit, while something like 9 consecutive Republican terms have included a recession or crash and yet the party never gets the blame.

You warehouse nikkas thinking a 65-70% pay increase is reasonable or even appropriate for those that a Mexican can do with a month training
