Nas has been trying to move away from the album his entire career. Only problem is half his fan base considers it classic for some reason.
Who told you that?
Nas called it one of the most creative LP's to ever hit stores on Gods Son..

I copped it the day it came out. My opinion on it was solidified before you were even allowed to hear swear words.Album is overrated, full of lies, a pale imitation of what Biggie & Rae & Jay & AZ were doing, and it was bad for the culture.

With all that said, there are some joints on it. Its a solid 4 mic album like most of Nas' work. Not a classic tho.
I dunno man...
nikkas so happy to hear a good Nas album, this sh*t's become a classic in a week.
And don't get me wrong, I think it's good too. I think it's great considering Nas' last 3-4 albums. Possibly the best he's done since Stillmatic (Lost Tapes doesn't count, that's a collection of unreleased songs over the years... that's like callin' a greatest hits album a classic). But let's not jump ahead of ourselves... "classic" might be premature.
All them dudes was biting nas, wishing they held the clout he did at the time. Jay sampled nas on his album, Nas was the highlight of rae's album. Az always wished he could be nas. And big changed up his whole style before lad dropped.

He sample Fat Joe on the album too. Whats your point?
AZ might have had the best verse on Illmatic and Doe or Die > IWW.
None of them were biting Nas. They were biting Kool G Rap. Nas looked around and saw that his raps weren't mafioso enough and next thing you know he's wearing a pink suit in the desert and reenacting Casino.
You ever heard Death of Escobar?
Keep waiting on that Firm Reunion album.
Nas is always re-inventing himself on each album..thats what great artists do.
Illmatic had that street, NY vibe
It Was Written had a larger than Life mood, but he still kept that shiit lyrical as fukk
I Am and Nastradamus was his attempt to cross-over to an even bigger public than IWW
Stillmatic was the Comeback album after Nas was written off..and people had forgotten about him.
Gods Son was his most personal album..his mom dying..the war with Jay.
Untitled and Hip Hop is Dead speak for themselves
Life is Good is a celebration of Life.
Find me another rapper who continues to grow as an artist but doesnt have to sell out to become relevant again
He reinvented himself as clumsy, confused, second rate follower for a minute.
