Breh nobody knew Noah was gonna be this ass, but I agree it was a definite L for Phil.
Everyone knew he was injury prone and in his 30's though, fam. I didn't mind the signing that much at the time because I thought we were on the verge of being a top 4-5 team in the East and felt his defense, passing, and leadership would make him worth it. In hindsight, it's trash. THJr is 25 and just had his best season. The money he's getting is not that egregious compared to similar contracts being given out. Let's save the vitriol for when we actually make a genuinely bonehead move.

Actually Noah had been ass for a second. Hardaway played really well offensively and became a decent defender in Atlanta. The only real good part of that contract is once it comes off the Knicks could add a final piece before they need to pay KP, Willy, and the rest of the youth if they decide to keep them.

Not defending the amount given but I see the logic (even if risky) to the move. If Frank works out that is a very dangerous back court who can shoot, lead the break, and will be good defensively. If they get a Point Forward like Doncic (or to a lesser degree Bonga) then they can have multiple shooters in a half court set that can slash/pass/shoot...... it could work out for them sooner than later

Hardaway is a player with limited upside who comes with a heavy price tag, so even though he is not an older player he doesn't present many positive variables long term. Considering the options at filling the wings positions by way of youth over the next couple of years being A) going through the draft B) Getting a young RFA with relatively moderate to high upside C) Trading for a young wing that team has given up on (i.e. Hezonja) signing Hardaway doesn't make sense to me because his potential is low imo and could undermine the Knicks draft position. I don't see Hardaway as the starting SG on a championship team, and him being here along with Melo potentially still being here puts this team in a position where they won't be able to get Porter Jr. or Bamba.

The advanced stats won't tell the whole story, seeing as how KCP is usually assigned tougher assignments on a more consistent basis than Hardaway and this season he was asked to do more on offense which had an impact on his defense.

Not at all surprised that "genius" internet GMs are conveniently throwing advanced stats in the bushes when it doesnt fit the narrative. Advanced stats tell us that Timmy is a rapidly improving player, at 24, on both sides of the ball. Instead of investigating his potential in earnest you counter with this abstract, unprovable assumption that his attractive advanced numbers are owed to playing easier assignments than his contemporaries (funny how doing more on offense negatively affecting defense doesnt come into play when examining players like Melo).

At any rate, the idea is to BUILD a team. Filling a squad with D-Leaguers and rentals that dont fit into long term plans simply because they come with a cheap price tag isnt building anything. We want talents like Timmy, KP, Frank, Willy, etc to create a rapport that actually demonstrates growth as a unit. This takes time.

I think a lot of you guys just get salty when players get paid, and simply want squads where guys make 17 bucks an hour, so as not to excite your jealousy. In a league where Jrue Holiday and JJ Reddikk command 25m a year, and Conley commands 30 mill, grabbing a young up and comer for 17m, who figures into our plans long term, is on surface not a bad idea at all.

So On Realgm someone said ATL has 16.3 mil in max space if they renounce all their FAs, so in theory we gave Timmy an offer ATL literally couldn't match without making a trade. If this is right then the amount makes a bit more sense too

The Tim signing was terrible. He doesn't play D and he's one-dimensional on the offensive end.

Should've kept Holiday for a quarter of the price.

Please let the Hawks match :ohlawd:
How is he a one dimensional offensive player? He's not just a shooter. He's a fearless driver in transition, a great finisher at the rim (65% at rim, 50 dunks last season), and he's improved his ball handling and shooting off the dribble. Dude is 25 and played the best defense of his career last season, and his playmaking improved too (3 assists per 36 minutes). He could be a nice piece to have next to KP going forward for years to come. I like the fit next to Ntilikina.

Holiday is 28, that guy has no room for improvement and grinded to become an NBA reserve.
