Not at all surprised that "genius" internet GMs are conveniently throwing advanced stats in the bushes when it doesnt fit the narrative. Advanced stats tell us that Timmy is a rapidly improving player, at 24, on both sides of the ball. Instead of investigating his potential in earnest you counter with this abstract, unprovable assumption that his attractive advanced numbers are owed to playing easier assignments than his contemporaries (funny how doing more on offense negatively affecting defense doesnt come into play when examining players like Melo).
At any rate, the idea is to BUILD a team. Filling a squad with D-Leaguers and rentals that dont fit into long term plans simply because they come with a cheap price tag isnt building anything. We want talents like Timmy, KP, Frank, Willy, etc to create a rapport that actually demonstrates growth as a unit. This takes time.
I think a lot of you guys just get salty when players get paid, and simply want squads where guys make 17 bucks an hour, so as not to excite your jealousy. In a league where Jrue Holiday and JJ Reddikk command 25m a year, and Conley commands 30 mill, grabbing a young up and comer for 17m, who figures into our plans long term, is on surface not a bad idea at all.
