So how long did it take you to collect all this info ?:ohhh:
Always dope to see people with inside knowledge on message boards like here..
We have pretty much broken down all the songs on my version, before we continue with the rest of the material & I'll edit the infos into the opening posts/tracklist:

What you think of snoops lyrical ability back then ?
I'm always a bit mad that he used some verses/songs from others, he wrote many dope lyrics/songs back then he couldve used, no need for writers and on some instances it sounds a bit off like that "downtown assassins" joint, that was clearly tray dees songs where he just changed a couple words...
I always liked the lyrics on songs like "May I", "Up Jump Tha Boogie" or "Gangstaz Life", snoop still had it...
Also not to forget the tons of material he wrote for dre and the shyt for daz...
Snoop was at his best in 92-96 especially 96 thats why lyrically doggfather is superior to doggystyle. It took me years and years to collect this info about this album.

TOMMY- produced by daz, features daz and soopafly(voice of tommy boy on outro) recorded march 96 was present on all early drafts for doggfather until the september revision. It later appeared on smokefest and DMW. Good song fits the album theme but wasnt sorely missed in the final selection.
Smoke enough bud-recorded feb.96 produced by snoop though dre gets the credit was present on the first draft list then removed, a snippet of it is featured on retail. More of a jewell song imo.
C-WALKIN (Straight bangin)-recorded may 96 present on the september tracklist and was removed from retail 3 weeks prior to release. Produced by lt hutton samples paul revere, classic snoop at his best shouldve definitly stayed on album.
In the rain remix- a cover version of the dramatics song, features hurt em badd unsure if snoop drops a actual verse or just does the outro produced by kevin lewis was present on the july tracklist but its believed that the song possibly wasnt apart of the albums selection process but appears on dat.

Dope gotta see which songs are missin now.
BTW: If you got the inside scoop on all those songs, which are the most impressive lyrical songs written by snoop for you ? Especially from the df days ?
The writing aspect is always one of the most interesting ones to me...

Honestly for me:2001, freestyle conversation(just dont like the whisper delivery but lyric wise he was on point), gangstaz life, change gon come, may i, i will survive, c walkin, snoop bounce (just dont like the mixing personally the vocals shoulda been louder and beat shoulda had the same tempo as the epmd/breed versions, street life, if theres a cure, snoops upside ya head, 21 1st st, gold rush, up jump boogie, tommy, word on the streetz, sixx minutes all these showed him at his best lyrically honorable mentions: wanted dead or alive, midnite love, once again, doggyland (just needed to be mixed better).

Was once again from the DF era? That song im always unsure about.
Also what songs you thought he performed his best?

But how many of those songs you listed were written with other peoples help ?:jbhmm:
Im still kinda confused at songs like 2001, you said bad azz wrote the concept & hook, yet there are 3 writers for the song but snoop annotated the lyrics on rap genius :why:
Like how much involvement those other dudes actually had on those songs ?

Once again is from the df days I think

About half of the songs from those sessions were written by others back in 2006 snoop said badazz wrote the whole album which we know wasnt the case but he did write a few as did techniec, soopafly, tray dee, 2pac etc. everything from verses, concepts, hooks similar to what doc did on doggystyle album but more hands on.

Once again woulda been a good addition to retail i remember a DF bootleg that was floatin on the net a few yrs back and they had it as the final track mixed with the outro. The fitst time i heard it was on the smokefest 96 movie.

The retail is not that bad though its far from what was originally supposed to drop. But it had great songs: gold rush, groupie, up jump da boogie, blueberry, downtown assasin, snoops upside ya head, wake up,doggfather. Its just songs like freestyle conversation and the sequencing ruined the album. But had you replaced a few of the tracks and resequenced them to flow better it would be a different story.

I think it's trash after dropping doggystyle snoop dropped 2 trash albums da game is sold not told is even worst that shyts like a 0.5/5 if dre was around shyt would've been different even dre said dogg father was garbage. No limit top dogg was like a 3/5 last meals like a 4/5 and everything after that's like a 3 or lower although snoops still a legend but has a pretty bad catalogue full of sick hits.

Also remember dre dropped the aftermath album that year too. The thing is with this album is that suge usually picks that tracklists and singles. Unfortunatly after 2pacs murder snoop changed up the album last minute and suge was in jail so he didnt hear the final product until it came out. Lyrically snoop was still top level on this album that didnt fade until after last meal

I guess but that doesn't really mean anything it wasn't just that album most of snoops albums are not good besides the hits all that shyt is garbage. But I guess it's still the dogg but if anyone wants to say that snoops albums are good or have even aged well is lying or doesn't know. it's a disappointment more then anything snoop couldn't even ever rap like he did on doggystyle and the chronic ever again. Last meal is fire tho I'll say not a classic but fire 4/5
