2001- was recorded late february 96, written by badazz with nate dogg harmonizing on the original version featured on the 20th anniversary edition. Appeared on an early tracklist along side keep it real dogg as a remix/part 2 type song and was removed by june 96 and readded in september. Great song just wish they kept nate on it.
Wanted dead or alive- recorded april 96 as far as pacs vocals are concerned, snoop didnt get on til later along with charlie wilson. Originally this was one of the songs done so the album can have a pac feature on(out tha moon, just watchin etc.) But wasnt revisited again until after pac died and snoop went back to add the rip shoutout. In that same session is where the track with biz markie was done and the other version of vapors dj pooh version was fully mixed down and mastered. This song replaced street life on the gridlockd soundtrack.

The Genie- written by badazz and features him as well. Produced by lt hutton, features bo roc was done in late spring 96 in the same sessions as stone cold corleons. Song was scrapped early and doesnt appear on any other dats for the album. This is another song where the mixing kinda drowns snoops vocals.

How you know that bad azz wrote "The genie" ? That song seems mad familiar to me from some of snoops older work but I cant put my finger on it...
You got actual credits or somethin ?

He wrote the hook and concept of the song but snoop wrote his own verse, he used it from a murder was the case era song but changed up the verse slightly, I have to go back and hear the track to pinpoint it. You got any info on dogged her out? Or any songs that were intended for doggfather that ended up on his NL releases?

Sixx Minutes- cover of slick rick song features jodeci and raphael saadiq. Produced by arkim and flair and mixed by tommy d i believe recorded may 11th 96 appears on a work dat and a early draft list and was constantly in limbo of making retail. Great track dont really mind snoops whisper flow on this the mixing was good, the live strings were a good addition. Underrated track.

Freestyle Conversation- recorded september 15th 96 2 days after pacs death and served as a replacement for i will survive. This song was also in limbo because it was took off the final song selection sequencing and was replaced by C walkin but was added in at very Last minute 2 weeks before release. Production wise sounds like an atliens era track, lyrically snoop brings it but his delivery coulda been better and thats what kills this track, im very on and off about this song sometimes i bump it sometimes i dont. Strangely critics reviewed this as one of albums highlights.

So you sayin the whole genie concept and the hook was his idea and the verses are by snoop ?
Cant say I know anything about "Dogged Her Out" or "Show Me Luv" other than they were done on death row, same with "Pay for p*ssy" with Big Pimpin...

Yeah its happended before snoop mentioned before that badazz wrote concepts and hooks for some songs on the album. This aint livin is another DF song as pac wrote it for snoop but its unknown if he recorded his vocals. The only thing i know about dogged her out is that it was done in 96 same with MR and MRS.

KEEP IT REAL DOGG-produced by daz and Lt hutton. Recorded april 96 is the solo version of the lbc crew track. The track was present on all dats and draft lists up until september 96. Contains disses aimed at biggie(one of the very few jabs he throw at him ie. Sixx minutes, up jump da boogie, snoops upside ya head) was at one point present on the same draft list aa 2001 but after pacs death snoop removed most of the obvious biggie disses from the album. Great production, live instruments, snoop goes in unfortunatly shoulda had an extra verse on it, makes a good promo single.

But that isnt really uncommon tho, snoop wrote the verses on those songs which is the most important part of writing for me. Hooks are often written in a collaborative process or ideas tossed around in the studio. You got a list of which songs he thought of the concept/hook ?

The song infos that are missin from my tracklist are "Wanted Dead Or Alive", "Just Watchin", "Snoops Upside Ya Head" , "Dogg Collar", "I Will Survive", "Street Life" & "Downtown Assassins" now, you also got those ?

2001, word on the streetz, only move 4 the money are the others that come to mind.
Just watchin- recorded june 96 features 2pac, DPG and hurt em badd produced by daz was one of the multiple features slated for the album and possibly the only planned pac feature. After his death the song groupie replaced it Snoop had mentioned why he removed the track from the final retail due to him not being able to celebrate the album with his homeboy. I think this song shoulda stayed on retail as it was to supposed to be the albums closing song.

Street life- recorded february 96 solo with prince ital joe pac didnt add his verse until june when snoop was looking to get pac features on his album along with just watchin and out tha moon pac added all his verses that same day. Originally intended for the album early on but was then moved to the gridlockd soundtrack 2pac spoke on the song in interview, but soon after it was moved back to DF then replaced by snoop bounce possibly me and my doggz then moved back to gridlockd only to be shelved. Snoop played the song on radio once back in 96, produced by Lt and daz.

Dogg collar- recorded march 31st 96 produced by LT hutton. Features bad azz and big pimpn, was present on all dats and tracklists until september and was replaced by doggyland. Great song, its believed it was removed due to sample clearences but doggyland also contain samples from michael jackson but snoop spoke on this song regretting not putting this on final retail. Removing this song cost the album extra sells as it wouldve hit whats my name/gin and juice status.

Wanted dead or alive-pacs vocals recorded sometime after 2OAMW as far as pacs vocals between jan-february 96 some say possibly a little later, but it was to be a Part 2 of Gangsta party, snoop recorded his vocals later on. Produced by daz and features charlie wilson/val young, in december 96 snoop went back and added the rip shoutout. No clue if it was intended for doggfather though possible due to lance pierre/dave aron believing so. But it doesnt appear on any work dat or drafts.

Snoops upside ya Head- i looked for as much info as i can but this is all i got... produced by DJ pooh features charlie wilson was released september 13th 96 the day 2pac died but didnt appear on any of the dats until september 16th. This means the song had to be done the day they got back from vmas or a few days after. Song contains disses at biggie, and other artists involved in the eastwest fued, snoop felt that it was a strong lead single, when released it got a good response then the hype died down rather quick, he then recorded the remix with nate(in late september 96) and was gonna put that on album instead but moved it to be side .

I will survive- features techniec, kv, kurupt and nate dogg, produced by soopafly the version to appear on album can be found on DMW.recorded march 1st 96 was present on all dats and drafts until september of that yr it was replaced by freestyle conversation. Great song keeps the mafia string sound that the album needed also sorely missed from retail.
Downtown assasins-written by tray dee and produced by daz recorded september 14th 96, great song it has a different sound than anything on retail but hollywood bank robbers which was done around the same time wouldve been a better addition for the album imo and this song wouldve fit well on gang related too.

You got that from an interview or another source ?
So Bad Azz actually didn't write verses but hooks etc ?
I know that snoop actually wrote some dope material back then himself but i seen some discussions about how much certain Artists contributed to certain songs lyrically ...

I know of:

-"2001" being by Bad Azz, Threat & Kurupt
-Downtown Assassins by Tray Dee
-Me & My Doggz was with help from Techniec
-Midnight Love where bad Azz was taken off the song and snoop Spit his part instead

You got concrete examples for song and their respective credits ?
And if possible a source for that ?
I only know of those because of the Credits

So how long did it take you to collect all this info ?:ohhh:
Always dope to see people with inside knowledge on message boards like here..
We have pretty much broken down all the songs on my version, before we continue with the rest of the material & I'll edit the infos into the opening posts/tracklist:

What you think of snoops lyrical ability back then ?
I'm always a bit mad that he used some verses/songs from others, he wrote many dope lyrics/songs back then he couldve used, no need for writers and on some instances it sounds a bit off like that "downtown assassins" joint, that was clearly tray dees songs where he just changed a couple words...
I always liked the lyrics on songs like "May I", "Up Jump Tha Boogie" or "Gangstaz Life", snoop still had it...
Also not to forget the tons of material he wrote for dre and the shyt for daz...
