The sad part is even if Orlando do draft a superstar player or two in the next 3 years, that dude is gone in like 6-8 years.
Their GM has already said he wants to build through the draft like OKC, he was apart of their organization and he liked how they did it. Same with the Spurs. He wants to reach the bottom, in order to reach the top. Thats why there was no interest in Gasol or Bynum, all they were looking for was some young talent, some picks, and cap relief. They got all of those things. The Nets deal was never going to happen as long as Brook Lopez is involved. If you're a rebuilding team, you dont pay Brook max. What Atlanta had to offer was too good as well, they werent looking for star players, the GM literally wanted to start fresh from the bottom.
There is really no reasonable explaination for what Dwight and the Orlando front office has been doing this past year...It's all mind boggling.. Anyone that tries to defend or explain any of their actions is a fool...If I was a Magic fan I would never give them another dime of my momey.. And I rarely say that...
Afflalo is probably worth 8 mil a year when you look at the current crop of SG's..he's young, he can shoot, and he can defend...could average 17-18 ppg for the next 5-6 years...he does everything a SG should be able to, so I can justify that...Lopez on the other round is getting paid max money and he rebounds like a small forward..
Giving Lopez the max is too much, but paying Afflalo nearly $8 million a year in your eyes is somehow good for a rebuilding team.
I don't know why you dudes try to justify this shyt, I bet you were one of them cats saying the Odom/Scola/Martin/Dragic trade for Cp3 was great for the Hornets as well. The 3 teams raped the Magic, and other teams did offer better deals for a team that was trying to rebuild, the Rockets in particular.
3 straight years in the lottery for a team going into a new arena.
The problem is in order to replicate OKC's success is you have to hit EVERY pick out the park AND draft potentially a top 3 player for the next 10 years.
On the other hand, Bynum in a weak Eastern Conference where the #1 team starts Joel Anthony at center is a perennial 2nd round playoff team at worst.
Reality is you're not winning a title in the NBA without a top 5 player in the league. There's 32 teams in the league. You just traded away the best center in the game and its doubtful you're drafting anybody in the next 3 years who will be on the level of Lebron, Durant, Howard or Westbrook. Which means at the end of the day you're probably looking at a best case scenario of perennial 2nd round playoff team only you're going to suck for 2-3 years in a bad sports town before you even get to that level.

Yes. But the Magic wanted "more"

That whole rebuilding through the draft idea is just the dumbest shyt ever. Just because it worked for OKC doesn't mean it's foolproof.
This dumb GM really thinks he is gonna get a Durant/Westbrook/Harden trio with rookie deals when he has a greater chance ending up with average players and overpaying the few free agents that will even consider playing for his wack ass franchise.
Why are you defending this crap?
Its apparent that foul play/pay to play happens in the NBA..No reason why Orlando trades Dwight for that sort of deal.

im not defending anything, I could care less about the Orlando Magic.. im just sayin dude is smarter than yall give him credit for...let it play out
what if Moe Harkless (lottery pick) turns out to be a really good player....?
him and Afflalo could be good pieces along with the lottery picks theyll have over the years...look at the Pau Gasol trade and how that ended up working for Memphis
So what's the alternative? Fold?
"Smart" GM's dont trade Hall of Fame talent for "what ifs"
