Why did they refuse the Houston offer if they wanted to rebuild?

From Woj twitter: HOU offered ORL $12M in space (instead of Afflalo), recent 1st picks, future lottery and unprotected picks. Would've taken bad deals and no need to take on Harrington contract.
Great question. I woulda took the Houston deal because I could have taken everything Morey had. That's a mistake on Orlando's part. The only semi-justifiable logic is whether you wanna have so many young guys at once in a losing culture being paid at the same time, but that's on the GM to weed out the good from the bad.

it's funny how we got a better deal for ray allen than they did for fukking dwight howard :dead:

and people questioned that too, saying they shoulda kept Lewis Allen and Durant together to see what they can do.

OKC rose because they dumped Allen and Lewis to stay off the mediocre 40 win team treadmill while developing youngsters.

But you have to draft the studs though and trade your overrated young players to get the other pieces you need

The best thing they got outta that deal was free cap space.
but other than that.:dead:

$30 million in cap space that they would've had anyway.

Everyone profited in this trade except Orlando, and they should've been the main ones profiting since they had the best player.

Uncertain grounds
Magic Incoming-Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic, Moe Harkless, Josh McRoberts, Christian Eyenga and one protected future first-round pick from each of the three teams.

:hmm:

Draft picks the Magic will receive are the Nuggets' (2014), 76ers' (2015) and Lakers' (2017).

:hmm:

They gave up the best player in the trade, top 10 player, and got the 4th best player in the trade back.

its obvious the magic are tanking. they are trying to be like thunder and get three top 5 picks in a row. they dont want max contracts (lopez, bynum). they dont want low draft picks either. they plan on being terrible. end of story. the only question i have is do you draft shabazz, zeller, or noel???

If they wanted to tank Houston's deal wouldve been way better. Thats why this doesnt make sense. Instead they have a couple of protected 1st and 2nd (wtf) round picks

The #Magic received a $17.8 million traded player exception in the deal, Hennigan said. Magic will have 1 year to use it.

:ohhh: I remember when my Mavs got a 9.8 mil trade exception and we thought that was huge.

I understand that they are tanking what I don't understand is how isn't the package from Houston just plain better. Jeremy Lamb 1 of the other first and they were taking back bad contracts also and offering better draft picks. They could still develop young talent with those guys and tank.

This deal is a rip off no matter how you sale it. Houston gave them more prospects and picks. Then these dummies resigned Jameer Nelson. I will find it hilarious if the somehow sneak into the playoffs as an 8th seed.

The problem with taking players like Horford and Teauge is that they will make you a second or third tier team. You'd be good enough to win 30 games which is not acceptable. In the NBA you want to be terrible (consistent lottery picks to hoard young talent) or contending legitimately for a title. Anything else is a waste of time.

I would not have taken Lopez, Horford, etc. because all would need to be paid near max money anyhow which would be pointless because none of them are good enough to carry a team.

Orl. maybe should have taken Bynum though. He is young, has all the talent and skill in the world and is most likely better than anyone Orl. will draft in the future.
