Since when was Relapse considered a good album?

Honestly, "Old Time's Sake" is one of my favorite tracks right now. I like how there's no deeper meaning to it, just Eminem and Dre going back and forth having fun on a dope beat. That song should have been huge, but it was released a couple years too early.

I even liked "Crack a Bottle," but they didn't need it though.

Man, "Crack a Bottle" was pretty dope, especially the beat :ooh:. but that hook was lame :childplease:.

To sum it up perfect it's a decent album for Eminem who was considered Larry Holmes status before he dropped the Album but its arguably the wackest album Dr Dre produced

Ask yourself where u would rank Relapse amongst the other albums Dre produced... If u don't rank Relapse at atleast number 7 out of the 8 or 9 projects Dre produced you a damn lie

it's easily his 4th best album

in any order based on preference:

MMLP
SSLP
Eminem Show

..then it's Relapse

I think that's fair. and it aint like nikkas are ever calling it a classic. it is what it is... was the last of his decent shyt before his flow went full robotic and before he went poppy.

^^^ This.

And Recovery is by far his worst album btw.

It's his best produced album and the last time I heard him flowing.. he was making that shyt look easy. Don't know what happened after that. This and those Westwood freestyles

My custom disc:

Now THAT shyt plays like a movie...no leaks shoehorned in there for Itunes.

I kept We Made You because I finally understood wtf it was about and how it fit the theme. Women rightfully so have issues with Eminem's lyrics but one of the biggest reasons he had a lane to run in was because girls thought he was cute, hence "We Made You". After a song like Same Song And Dance, it kinda lightens the mood and reminds you that he's joking because that song is :merchant:

That is EXACTLY how I have my version of the album. And i have a feeling that was EXACTLY how Em wanted it to be.

If y'all really want to look at the album differently here is my theory.

The whole album is Em coming down from his high and is having a fantasy about being a serial killer. With every track he is slowly coming back down and the "aceents" slowly go away. When he finally comes down he talks about his addiction (Deja Vu) and depression (beautiful) and realizes he needs help. So after he takes another hit (Crack A Bottle), he goes to rehab and stays "Underground" until he recovers.

To this day I will forever be curious about how Relapse 2 was going to sound like. They even hinted at the 2nd disc on the Steve Berman skit. The only evidence we have of it is on Refill where he was STILL rapping his off.

Relapse will always special to me because that was Em at his CORE.

He hasn't rapped the same since :to:

It was a good album and had good production.

It was even well received on :hamster: I remember how hyped everyone was for Recovery, thinking he was gonna take it to the next level, based on how good Relapse was. The threads on Recovery were huge. Just Blaze said he was rapping even better than on Relapse.
Then we got the finished product, corny punch-lines and screaming :scust:

If Em had any real artistic credibility backbone and independence and wasn't such a corporate record label lackey. Relapse would've been a tremendous concept creative album. It's a shame I have to add obvious mistakes in omissions by Em. Album would been a 4.5/5 for me. In retrospect the "accents" fit the theme/concept of the album. I'll take accents with dope flows, rhyme schemes and multis over yelling and hit or miss punchlines and choppy flows.

1. My Darling
2. Dr. west Skit
3. 3 A.M.
4. My Mom
5. Insane
6. Bagpipes
7. Hello
8. Tonya (skit)
9. Same Song And Dance
10. Hell Breaks Loose feat. Dr.Dre
11. Medicine Ball
12. Paul (skit)
13. Stay Wide Awake
14. Must Be The Ganja
15. Mr. Mathers (skit)
16. Deja Vu
17. Careful What You Wish For
18. Beautiful
19. Steve Berman (skit)
20. Underground

My Darling is regular Em rapping normal no accents. Shady serial killer alter ego starts to take over on the 3rd verse. Dr west skit is an actual dream but the reality is he Relapsed and the shady serial killer alter ego/ personality has taken over at 3am. My mom and insane are the backstory to the creation of the alter ego. Hello is the welcome back re introduction of shady.Mid album is the shady/serial killer antics a la same song same dance. Mr Mathers skit is the OD of shady. Here is where the high is coming down and accents start to dissipates. Deja vu, underground and CWYWF are sobering reflection tracks. Underground is the still don't give a fukk/criminal like closing announcing Em is back. Hence why it follows the Berman skit.

The fact Dre does the bulk of the production is the icing on the cake. One of the best mixing/mastering I've ever heard on an album. Some of the production would've fit 50 in his prime.

Recovery is better than that by far and better than TES
