10 Ferry Hunting

O.K., it's a toss-up as to how this will make you feel about Duncan: Did he once invite a bunch of teammates to a paintball course even though most had never played paintball? Perhaps. Did Duncan then stack his team with ringers and bring his own high-powered paintball gun? Maybe. Did he give certain players such as Danny Ferry guns that, according to Ferry, "were bent and shot six feet to the left every time"? There's a chance. And did Duncan then take great delight in hunting down his teammates, chasing the pale, balding, shorts-wearing Ferry until he was in close range, at which point Duncan unleashed a hail of water-soluble hellfire upon the man? It's possible.

Ok...Duncan is better than KG. But you're going to great lengths to discredit KG. It's a team game and yes, most of KG's team accomplishments fall short of Duncan's, but he's legit in his own right. The "how many rings you have" argument is a double edged sword. You prop up Dirk ring, yet u dismiss KG's as if he was a non factor. Is Kidd no good cause he won his ring as a 2nd or 3rd option? KG career is singular to KG only. U can't discount how great he is cause he falls short of the GOAT. U can put KG's stats, longevity, and impact up against most men who played his position in the history of the league, and he'll hold his own.

A lot of excuses being made for KG's ineptitude in MN. We're not just talking rings, we're talking playoff performance. How is it that Duncan made it to the WCFs consistently with a bunch of journeymen role players before Ginobili and Parker emerged all those years? How does Dirk's squad win 50 games year in and year out and usually win at least one playoff series with a rotating cast of nobodies ? The Mavs lost Nash and got better. Dirk took a team where the best other options were Terry and old ass Stackhouse off the bench to the finals and lost the Heat/refs. They revamp their roster almost every year and still win 50 games because Dirk's offensive game is unstoppable. People act like those teams with Gugliotta, Marbury, Sczerbiak, Brandon, etc. and later Cassell and Sprewell were the Bobcats or something.

KG is immensely talented, but his style of play doesn't translate into W's the way someone like Duncan's does because he doesn't have the type of back-to-the-basket game that gets consistent high percentage looks and collapses the defense and frees up cutters and shooters.

Pierce because he was the finals MVP...and he made it to the ECFs previously as the #1 option. And he'll go down as a Mr. Celtic for carrying the team through the ups and downs and staying there his whole career. And his reputation as the closer.

Garnett's legacy, if any, is losing in the first round almost every year then finally winning on a squad alongside two of the best players of the last decade and being the defensive anchor and 2nd or 3rd offensive option.

I think when we talk about legacy, that usually applies to the cream of the crop, though. Dudes like Kobe, Shaq, and Duncan. Nobody really gives a fukk about KG's legacy.

:wtf: I'm so close to negging. This is ludicrous. KG is super elite. One of the top 20-25 players EVER. Truth is my favorite player, but having more of a legacy than K fukking G? Out of your mind...

why everybody hate KG? KG is ALMOST as good as Duncan. There's not much of a difference in skill. Just that Duncan has had better teammates around him for the most part. Creating an illusion of skill difference being bigger than it actually is. Ya'll nikkaz sound like you started watching basketball in the year 2000 :gag:

There actually is a pretty big difference in the skills that Duncan and Garnett possess. One is a low post player and the other isn't but both can do what the other does but not as "effective"

:stopitslime:

The skillset difference is in the post, even to this day more of KG's shots are assisted than Duncans and more of Tim's shot come from inside the paint.

1 hunnid. Just to add some quick analysis

To me if we are looking at KG and Duncan individually, they impact the game the same way. One of the main arguments for Duncan vs KG seems to be the way their offensive games contrast. A lot of people think Duncan posting up = Duncan being a better scorer and/or having more impact. Excuse me if I'm wrong but I don't buy this at all. Garnett managed to put up similar #s on similar efficiency while shooting turnaround jumpers. KG holds a respectable ~55% career TS and managed to command so much attention that he was averaging 5 and even 6 assists in his prime years (averages 4 for his career as a PF). Putting this in perspective, Duncan doesn't have a single year where he even averaged 4. Factoring the teams that these guys have had around them makes this even more impressive.

It IS true that KG did have some pretty good teams in Minny and simply couldn't get it done though. shyt happens. To me this shouldn't be a slight on KG. Instead, big up Duncan for getting it done even when the odds seemed against him (03). I will always concede Duncan being the better player because of that year. He rose to the occasion more than a few times that year and in general and as a result won ring after ring.

I didn't touch defense because they are both big time there. I would say KG is better because the 08 Celtics were one of the best defenses ever but I'm admittedly biased towards KG because of what he's done for the Celtics. A little strange that Duncan doesn't have a DPOY under his belt.

I don't think Pierce is better than KG. Pierce gave the fans more memorable moments. That's all I was referring too.
