Should the Celtics retire Garnett's jersey?

that would be crazy. he only played 6 seasons with the celtics and won 1 championship and made only 2 finals appearances. they weren't even the best team for half of his time there.

the heat retiring bron's and bosh's jersey have a better case. at least they made the finals each season they were together and won more rings.

I think when you’re going to take a number out of circulation, you should probably be more than just a champion. You should be the face of a franchise for many years.

I’m my opinion there are too many retired jerseys in sports as it is.

Yes. The whole reason by Pierce's own admission as to why he got his retired is largely due to KG. Garnett was equally important to Boston as he was to Minnesota. It's like Kobe and the two jerseys. Both periods were equally important to the totality of that person's career.

celtics may have a rich history of championships but in last two decades that was the only one so hey....the big 3 made the celtics franchise relevant again

Yes. Boston was a team that was stuck in mediocrity for years (minus that 2002 Conference Finals appearance). KG changed that culture immediately and got them a ring and another Finals appearance. His tenure was short, but the impact was strong.

Not to mention, he solidified his own status as an all timer by winning a championship with them. Don't matter if he was only there 6 years.
