that would be crazy. he only played 6 seasons with the celtics and won 1 championship and made only 2 finals appearances. they weren't even the best team for half of his time there.

the heat retiring bron's and bosh's jersey have a better case. at least they made the finals each season they were together and won more rings.

The bar for Jersey Retirement is getting lower every day.

Lol. A guy who was the best player on a championship team, was a key piece on another Finals team, finished top 3 in MVP voting, won DPOY (with a couple other top 5 finishes), made 5 all-star teams plus 4 all-defensive teams with 3 of them being 1st team is lowering the bar? There’s like 5 Celtics alone with their jerseys retired that he has a greater legacy with the team than

He wasn't there long enough to me...or maybe a 2nd ring would've offset that. But Boston needs to reevaluate their retired numbers. Literally half the numbers in the rafters don't need to be there.

I think when you’re going to take a number out of circulation, you should probably be more than just a champion. You should be the face of a franchise for many years.

I’m my opinion there are too many retired jerseys in sports as it is.

Easily

he changed the culture and is one of the greatest defensive players ever, he brought what bill russell used to in those 60s celtics

celtics may have a rich history of championships but in last two decades that was the only one so hey....the big 3 made the celtics franchise relevant again

Yes. Boston was a team that was stuck in mediocrity for years (minus that 2002 Conference Finals appearance). KG changed that culture immediately and got them a ring and another Finals appearance. His tenure was short, but the impact was strong.

Jersey
Of course his jersey should be retired. Transformed the culture of the franchise and was the best player on the team when they won it all for the first time in decades. Not to mention, he solidified his own status as an all timer by winning a championship with them. Don't matter if he was only there 6 years. Considering his impact those 6 years, it's long enough. nikkas talking about Antoine Walker lmaoooo...
