Hasn't it been 18 years? Many people wouldn't have played the originals. Many won't wanna play the re-releases either. I'm curious if they finish this story. I don't expect a direct sequel with close to 20 years between games is gonna sell well. This was also said not to conclude the story. It still is likely facing a scenario where the story is never concluded if sales don't justify making more.
Making direct sequels to video games that require playing the previous game is typically not a good idea. You limit your audience by default.
I agree with this. I hope the next game gets closer to end the series, but if this one doesn't sell well, we might not ever see it, especially if Sega doesn't back the series for future games. It's also kind of weak of Sega not letting Yu Suzuki add the original classic arcade games to Shenmue III like the previous games.
I been playing for the last couple of days
disappointing that Ryu still is a scrub in the beginning(this is the 3rd game) compared to other martial artists
I mean damn I thought after beating Dou nui he'd be regarded a little bit better and not get a one hitter quitter and be out for days
I prefer the old VF fighting mechanics of the previous games to the updated fighting mechanics of this one. It's taking me a while to get used to it on this game.
I watched somebody play a fair bit of this game on YouTube and it looks like it was straight up ripped out of the late 90s early 2000s. The dialog sounds horrendous like a bunch of people were randomly brought into the booth to read a script with no direction. The animation is stiff and awkward. Some of the dialog sounds like it was pieced together from stock phrases.
If I had to sum it all up it looks like a game that should be very low budget but instead strives to be more than that. It exist in this place where it looks somewhat better than most other low budget titles but not good enough to pass for AAA.
Unfortunately I don't think this is gonna make it. The only people who are gonna like this are the people that played it almost 2 decades ago and even then many of them probably aren't onboard.
Jim Sterling ripped this thing a new butthole. I kinda agree with his final point. The director should probably finish this story up as a book. From what I saw I doubt this gets another game.
This game is super polarizing amongst the Shenmue community. Either it’s second best entry behind S2 or it’s complete trash
Honestly as much as I want to give Lan Di the beats, I would’ve been pissed if I had paid full price over it. That being said, I’m having a fun time but my issues are
The writing/English dub: Shenmue has always had the super cheesy 80s Asian Kung Fu movie vibe, but damn this takes the cake here. The shytty English dub from the first one has a charm to it, the dub in the second game at least tries (keyword tries) to fix this, and we regress at this one. I get there were budget issues, but some care should’ve been put in this department. Also
EVERYONE in the village EXCEPT Ryo knowing that Shenhua wanted to fukk/is likely the village hoe is damn near S1 Sailor meme level fukkery
The Stamina system: Shenhua must not care about Ryo and all that garlic he carrying around and you’re spending most of the day chopping wood () for $ to buy more garlic so you won’t be assed out during a fight. Community is also split on this mechanic
