It’s not a “let”, Shaq was completely hard headed his whole life. The nikka just didn’t want to work out in that lakers stage. You right that the rules would be different tho, cause no one would even take the social media slandering that would come with allowing Shaq to just say fukk y’all training regimes year in and year out
it is a let. Many of the players back in the day were like that, drinking on game nights, eating like shyt. That stuff does not happen anymore. Shaq is not the only old player with bad conditionining, and today there are none in comparison

Teams are smarter defending the post now. They know how to abuse the zone rules without playing zone.

I can’t STAND this small ball era. When you got LeBron at 6’8”, Jeff Green at 6’9”, and Tristian Thompson BARELY at 6’10” playing center, you know the game is fukked up. Zero rim protection, and hella finger pointing.

In the off-season after his first championship, Shaq was tired of being pushed around in the post. Despite averaging 30 points per game during the postseason, Shaq felt he needed to add a significant amount of mass to his frame to prolong his superior play. From Fox Sports' Charley Rosen

It was after the Lakers' first championship that Shaq made a decision that had immediate rewards but proved to be a long-range disaster. Feeling that massive centers like Arvydas Sabonis and Luc Longley were pushing him around in the low post, Shaq felt that he needed to be heavier. In his equation, mass equaled power equaled total domination. He therefore instructed his personal chef to overload his meals with meat and potatoes and the pounds quickly began to accumulate.

Remember When Shaq Was Ripped and Super Athletic? Here's How He Put on So Much Weight

With the advancements in sports science, rehabilitation, health in general, etc.. and a lack of motivation to add weight, his Orlando/early LA prime probably extends a lot longer. It fits perfectly with today's game.

This cac defended Shaq in the Finals with the Nets and 76ers :laff:

Another white stiff put on Shaq but today's bigs are the problem

Very convenient for your argument to pick two stiffs from a group of Shaq's opponents that also included Ewing, David Robinson/Tim Duncan, Mourning, Olajuwan, Mutombo, Ben Wallace, Yao Ming, Divac/Webber...

Nah. It’s convenient for y’all to act like every center today is trash which could not be further from the truth and act like Shaq faced nothing but HoF’ers for 82 games and every playoff series.

It’s convenient for y’all to ignore rule changes and the evolution of the game and say Shaq would simply post up and drop 50 points a game in today’s NBA and so and so would just foul out in three minutes.

why are some of yall acting like the pick and roll was invented in 2014?
It wasn’t. It’s use is more prevalent and sophisticated now though and Shaq struggled to defend it in his day so it would only be highlighted more today.

That's why I and many other NBA stars say LeBron wouldnt be as dominant in the 80s/90s because the paint would be clogged up with the likes of Shaq, Mutumbo, Ewing, Alonzo, Sabonis, Hakeem etc waiting for him in the paint.
