Do offensive players like Shaq really got stopped? It’s extremely rare.
He would most likely put up good numbers against anyone. You just hope to make him work harder for his points and be less efficient than usual.
Sabonis does come to mind. He did do a good job on Shaq on the 00’ WCF. Him fouling out in game 7 was very costly.
People just like to match up the star players and think one person got badly outplayed.
Shaq did much better against Olajuwon than Ewing the previous year and Robinson in the prior series, but his team did the worst.
The biggest issue in that series was the lack of a 3rd offensive threat after each team’s big 2 (Hakeem/Clyde and Shaq/Penny). Houston constantly had other guys stepping up, while Orlando didn’t. Dennis Scott was supposed to be their sharpshooter and he had a horrendous series. Nick Anderson’s confidence probably got shattered after those 4 FTs and was a non-factor.

Good point. Championship Dream is one of my GOATs but Shaq got his. He actually had better stats except for points, steals and FT%.
