Really not that blasphemous of an opinion. The Mavs were depressing to watch when I was a kid, so it was either the Bulls or Magic games for me. Penny would've been a part of the GOAT discussion for guards if he stayed healthy. People look at you like :comeon: if you tell them Ron Harper could've been special.

Brehs still pretending that Kobe wasn't as or more athletic then any 2 gaurd outside of Jordan? :dead:
I understand the need to emphasize his legendary work ethic but cats downplay how naturally gifted & athletic Kobe was. You would swear he was Gordon Giricek and not the first guard drafted to the league at 17 partly based off physical tools.

The great thing about Penny is that he was willing to tone down/adapt his game for the betterment of the team...Some people say Penny wasn't aggressive enough to lead the league in scoring. Well, when Shaq missed the first 22 gms of the 95/96 season Penny gave people a taste of what he could do as a #1 option.

(copy/paste from another site)

In Shaq's absence, Penny would lead Orlando to a roaring 17-5 start (63 win pace over a full 82 game season).

Penny's stats:

26.4 PPG
5.3 RPG
6.8 APG
2.0 SPG
0.9 BPG
62.2 TS%

Penny's best games:

42-8-8 with 5 steals on 70.5 TS% in a triple OT win against New Jersey

36-4-5-4-2 on 82 TS% in a 6 point win over Chicago, handing them one of their 10 losses all season!!!

38 pts on 75.5 TS% in a 9 point win against the Clippers

Even a pass his prime Penny held his own against the Lakers during the 2000 playoffs.

Penny played with more clairvoyance than Kobe. Some guys are just more cerebral. They have a higher sense of awareness.Guys like Pistol Pete Maravich, Jason Kidd, Magic, CP3 etcc.Precognition skills off the charts.I'd put Penny in that class, but at the same time, I'd consider him the most athletic/best scorer of that bunch. Most of the players I listed were maybe 6/10 on the scale of athleticism.Penny before the knee problems was maybe at least an 8.5/10.His game was just so well balanced.Post moves, J, facilitating.Stylistically/aesthetically, next to Michael Jordan, he had the most physical charisma of all time imo.He was the prototype. The guy you wanted your game to look like out there on the court. You just had to be there to understand.

As a Penny stan who always defended him and who's gone back and watched a large sample of games over the years, Im starting get uncomfortable with how people rate my guy lol Im glad in a way cause they was hating on him with the injury years so Im glad he's getting his flowers after he retired. But I also dont know if he goes ahead of other guys on a list even healthy.

Even in the prime he had he definetly had things to improve (Defense, outside shooting) and I think he was natrually someone who deferred to Shaq or his teammates when he needed to takeover more. Only happened it super urgent moments (Shaq injury in 95 and the 97 Miami series)

Whats sad is he got his injuries right when his prime was happening and he switched to the 2 to take more shots (1997-98) so we never know

But yeah naw I have to say Kobe was better even though back then in the early early afro days I was hating on dude, he just had more of that dog in him

I will say though Penny would have eaten in this era but thats obvious.

Penny and Grant are the biggest what ifs in basketball.

They were at the mercy of the lack of medical technical advances.

Orlando Magic medical staff was the fukking WOAT for both
misdiagnoising shyt left and right, did it with Horace too.
