People trying to dictate a particular style of fighting to a boxer solely to see other fighters stand a better chance at winning will never get old.

Keep making em mad Shakur, future 5 division hall of fame world champion right there. :salute:
People swore up and down that Chavez was gonna bang Pernell Whitaker into submission based on this.

He was a heavyweight boxer doing 4 fights a year that were even and even being split decisions, L’s and shyt.

He could be a runner but he was still taking a lot of hits to the head by very big guys, many times per year.

That has more to do with the lack of safety protocols in pro boxing back then

Sparring too plays a big role.

For every pro fight a fighter has, think of how many rounds they sparred in preparation for those fights. And how many amateur fights they had and how much they sparred for those fights.

All of them have taken countless blows to the head no matter what their style is and how good they are defensively.

Boxing can be pretty unpredictable too in terms of whom ends up brain damaged or not. I listened to recent long interviews with Evander Holyfield and :flabbynsick: and they both seem sharp mentally, with at most, a slight deterioration in Holyfield’s speech. Holyfield seemed very high risk due to the punishment he took, but luckily he seems okay. But there’s other guys in awful shape whose careers weren’t as long and didn’t appear to take as much punishment.

The neurologist here says having the APOE4 gene puts you at increased risk

Those guys also fought 15 rounds. Some grueling fights.

After watching this sport for over 3 decades, I personally would not label Ali nor Ray Leonard runners.

Those guys could've ran to undefeated records had they wanted to honestly because their boxing skills were so much more phenomenal than their competition at the time.

He and Oscar De La Hoya were both the matinee idols that the women loved, but were brutal inside that ring!! Cruel as fukk!!
When you got Oscar pissed off, he wanted you to piss blood. LOL

Fishnets said he liked cutting opponents and always wanted to see them bleed more.

Leonard even shoves away his cornerman after winning lol

I think the main reason many Mexicans resented Oscar so much, was due to the sheer brutality he displayed with destroying Julio Cesar Chavez, twice. Thats where the animosity stemmed from. Saying he wasnt one of them, he was more American than Mexican etc...

And that's what Fernando Vargas tried to exploit in his fight with Oscar. Half the press conference he was like "Oscar not a real Mexican!!! :damn:"

he don't even have to go back that far
a ton of people called Floyd a runner
fact of the matter is Shakur has stood and banged with guys before, he's beat people up and hurt them, and he's knocked guys out
every fight can be different and yes he moved alot in his last fight, he blamed that on being 1 handed
either way ppl flip flop on these fighters literally from fight to fight. boxing fans might be worse than basketball fans the way they change narratives so quick
anybody acting like Shakur is a fraud and/or his career is ruined based off ONE fight that they don't like (that he won btw) probably ain't worth listening too
he's still seen as the top challenge to Tank and even Floyd has said Shakur is probably the most skilled guy at 135/140

Exactly. Funny you mention that because I was just watching that whole saga/fight. Fernando tried to turn the Mexicans against him when he was Mexican/American just like ODLH. Oscar got the last laugh with that brutal finish, though. Even moreso, when you realize Vargas was roided up and still got destroyed. One of the most soul crushing fights, ever.
