I haven't had one of these conversations with a Christian in a while because of that very reason.
I think at its base, the problem that atheists have with non-atheists is that it is inherently a hypocritical position. I'm not saying that the belief in god is hypocritical, but the belief that of all the gods in Earth's history, that YOU chose the right one and everyone else is wrong when there is an equally nonexistent amount of evidence for any deity is the part that irks me.
Like if I were to ask a Christian, "Why did you choose Jesus?" I would be told that it's because Jesus is
the real god or that Jesus talks to them or Jesus chose me or something else when the
real answer is that they chose Jesus because they were born in the western hemisphere during the 20th century.
The whole "my god is the one true god" shyt is
. Because if God does exist then every religion in the world is talking about the same dude and so
they're all right. They all just gave him a different name because of cultural differences and then spent the next 3000 years fighting over the names they gave him.
The other thing that's annoying (I know I'm just rambling at this point i apologize) is when Christians say that they're just gonna "Trust Jesus to take care of it" when
the entire foundation of their faith is the concept of free will. And then tell me that I need to give myself over to Jesus. I'm like what for? If my existence is about free will then how is believing in Jesus going to change
anything in my life?
Sorry I went off topic.
Btw I'm agnostic, not an atheist so I might be off on some atheist points but I think there's enough overlap between agnosticism and atheism that at least some of this should be relevant to the discussion.
