You idiots still using that tired ass "bu bu bu bu but they're going to cut jobs and hours if they increase the minimum wage! :sadbron:" argument? :mjlol: Have any of you clowns been to a Wal-Mart lately? Look at that place. Wal-Mart is already operating at the bare minimum. There's NOTHING left to cut. That's why big business fears this so much. They won't be able to offset the cost of the increase with cuts in labor. As for automation, that's coming anyway. There's no stopping it. Business is going to implement these minimum wage DOOMSDAY scenarios no matter what. The cost of labor could drop to 4 cents per hour but if a machine was able to do it for 3 cents per hour the human labor would be eliminated. The price of all goods and services will rise, as they have been, whether there is a minimum wage increase or not.

And the small business argument is so disingenuous because no one gives a damn about small business until the usual tired "_________ doesn't deserve _______ for doing _______" arguments have been slaughtered. Then it's "bu bu bu bu but small business, what about them? :sadcam:" The only person who seems to operate a small business is Brady's Artechoke and it shown to be cut rate and poorly run on the back of cheap labor. Still waiting for that answer on why you don't think $10 an hour can draw decent labor by the way. :mjpls:

Middle class wages have been on the decline for some time. Shouldn't you all be celebrating this? Shouldn't there be MORE JOBS and MORE HOURS and the cost of everything should be cheap, if not free? Since everything is tied to the cost of labor, right? But no, people bemoan the decline of middle class wages, and rightfully so but want the lower class wages to remain stagnant if not decrease. Why? Do you see yourselves getting closer to that lower class level? Scary huh? If minimum wage goes up then you're that much closer to Pablo and Tyron, not Sumner and Weatherford. Now you hate Pablo and Tyrone. But it's really Sumner and Weatherford you should be mad at. But damn it, you want a seat at their table SO BAD :ohlawd:

Think and grow rich, right? :mjlol:

You're equating a living wage with minimum wage though.

Thats what people in here keep doing to some annoying end.

On top of that, MOST PEOPLE do not make minimum wage.

The thing is, you shouldn't be mad about why lower class workers are lobbying for higher pay, you should be asking yourselves, "Why isn't MY pay higher than what it is?" Unless you realize you really aren't doing enough to be earning your salary as is. :mjpls:

I don't think FIFTEEN dollars is worth MINIMUM WAGE.

10 bucks is fine IMO.

We're talking MINIMUM wage.

This is BASELINE work.

Why $10? Because Obama said that's the fair price? fukk him.

We're talking about the labor force being adequately payed for their labor in a proportion which will allow them to live comfortably. That's much more than $10 and MUCH MORE than $15. Even for "baseline" work. It's a matter of social cohesion that trumps the rights of businesses to survive as they currently do.

What should you be able to do with minimum wage?

Please tell me.

Cause if you're gonna repeat this bullshyt "support a family of 4" trope then get the fukk outta here.

No one is making you support a family based on your inability to sequester better work, prove you're a more valuable employee, or work your way up above minimum wage. YOU AINT SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE ON THAT. THATS THE fukkING POINT.

Ya'll won't even talk about alternatives, like tying C-level pay to lower level employee pay. Or allocating percentages that must be given to employees etc. Or making industry specific minimum wages.

No.

Lets artificially raise a floor THAT WAS NOT INTENDED TO PROVIDE A DECENT WAY OF LIFE anyways.

And not just 10...but FIFTEEN fukkING DOLLARS per hour.

Fam, what entry level, unskilled job can you think of work that much in 2014?

I get all that, but we're talking about minimum wage here.

My pay is going up REGARDLESS so I'm good.

But if we're talking about government's responsibility, why should minimum wage be FIFTEEN dollars per hour????????????

How about you hop in the podcast so I can roast you too. Weak as logic displayed here on your part that you simply deflect when cornered. Your deflecting would sound wonderful in a recording.

This is the biggest myth in Capitalism. If everyone was the model citizen, educated, ambitious and valuable employee the lower tier for work would just be readjusted. Everyone could have PhDs and you'd have Doctors flipping burgers for minimum wage.

It's why there is a fight for Capitalists to keep wages down when compared to inflation and rising living costs. it's why Capitalists have been pushing for more and more unpaid internships. It's why Capitalists are investing for more and more automated labor. They want free slave labor. It's their goal and always has been. If they can replace humans with robots they will. It's purely a form of greed to transfer power, resources and wealth from the many to the few.

Why shouldn't it be? Only reason so far is that businesses can't afford it. Which may be true, may not be. It requires a 'wait-and-see' approach anyways not that its law.

If your pay is going up and 'your good', wtf do you care about 15 per hour for??

None of this addresses my point.

Why do entry-level, low-skilled jobs require $15 per hour right now in 2014?

AND

You ain't address my points:

What is a living wage?

Why don't you discuss the other alternatives of corporate strucutre?

Why should a minimum wage allow you to live comfortably?

Governments set a FLOOR, not a standard of living for wages.

Thats the point.

No one is supposed to reasonably live on minimum wage. Its not intended for that purpose.

Why do entry-level, low-skilled jobs require $15 per hour right now in 2014?

Because

A) The cost of living has significantly increased
B) Wages never kept up with inflation OR executive pay
C) Companies and the Wealthy are making record profits and gains
D) $15 is a low figure. It should be much higher. Theoretically it should approach a Socialistic value for their labor. $15 is at the bottom of that curve, trust me on that.

Problem is a majority of stable job growth that's being created are minimum wage jobs. Why is that? Look at the thread about April's job market. 280000 jobs got added, only 82,000 were high paying. What about the other 198000??
If wages have never been lower for middle& poor, why won't prices go down, seem as though they have less purchasing power & make up the majority of people?

Or perhaps you want it to be labeled differently, 15 should be a living wage and 7.25 should be the mininum??

1. Sure. But the minimum wage should not COVER that.
2. Remove executive pay from the equation. THEY WILL ALWAYS GET PAID. I dno't know why ya'll are so hung up on what CEOs make. The problem were discussing is MINIMUM WAGE. Ya'll dont wanna address this shyt. And yes...it SHOULD go up...but to $15? fukk no.
3. So????????????????? Whats that got to do with MINIMUM WAGE?????????????????????
4. This is sheer fantasy-land. You're telling me any dude off the street should be able to walk into a job and hold down MORE than $15 PER HOUR???
