I didn’t say jalen was her agent or signed her checks….I just said that he made an “on air” push to support her stance and the equal/competetive pay initiative….. she had stood on this, so she isn’t just gonna take whatever they offer if it’s below par

Which is totally within her right to do so, but she's not getting $5 million dollars on the open market if that's what she thinks especially in this climate of sports.

Other ESPN employees are having/have had to take a paycut and/or leave less money on the table. Look at the recent ESPN departures in this thread and the reasoning of why they left. Disney isn't letting ESPN just spend bread like they used to hence the reduction in employees salary. Even SAS and Greeny more than likely have had to take paycuts during the pandemic, so her being offered less bread isn't surprising. This has been the new norm for them going back since at least Nolan and Bomani agreeing to new and reduced deals. She should have just taken the $5 million when it was offered as now the pandemic is going to cause her to get even less. Remember, ESPN has to do what Disney says.

There isn't any feminism in this situation. She isn't the pop culture figure nor drives in the viewers the way that SAS does to justify SAS type money. The only other person even close to that is Greeny and even then there's a huge gap between him and SAS.

Yep SAS is the biggest name at ESPN when it comes to non athletes

Stephen A is the star of the network because of the ratings performance year-after-year for
"First Take." He is a revenue driver because of the advertising he attracts.

Maria is what the industry used to call a "newsreader." She is not at all a personality that drives revenue.

You can play hardball, but remember that the manager can always go to the bullpen to bring in the right-hander.

And coming out of the bullpen, now pitching for ESPN....

Yep NBA Countdown done already had Sage Steele and Michelle Beadle

They can easily replace Maria Taylor

Is that supposed to change the fact that she’s not worth the price she’s looking for?

That argument goes both ways now though. I guarantee you that the Disney execs would've happily paid her $5 million per year to keep that story under wraps.

Literally, there's an exec yelling at folks in Bristol because this story PLUS the first take shyt literally stepping on the NBA's marquis event. For the ESPN/Disney side it's not worth the bad PR at this point of the story getting out and MT's team wouldn't mind taking advantage of that.

That story was going to eventually leak out regardless as everyone knew what transpired. Remember, there have been leaks for years from current and former ESPN employees about the dealings of what was going on there.

Even if this story never leaked, there still would have been the issue of her contract expiring two days before the end of the regular season and the playoffs. So it would be the question of do you pull her since you can’t reach an argreement or replace her if it goes 7 games?
