Saudi money is changing the landscape for many sports. First soccer, then golf, now tennis.

You don't understand. Saudi Arabia was one of America's closest allies for many years. But since they've bushed Biden's government, they've gone back to being the evil Middle Eastern boogyman.
They've always been evil boogyman long before Biden was even the vice president. That's literally where the 9-11 hijackers came from

Only people who thought otherwise were evil ass theocratic republicans and dumb centrist libs

Well one, they haven’t been bushed by the Biden government. We still sell the Saudis military equipment to enact a genocide in Yemen and still buy their oil and still ignore their human rights abuses to sell military equipment and buy oil.

Secondly, the Saudis deserve the Middle Eastern boogeyman claim. My only point is corporations also “sports wash,” and not to defend the Saudis.

Saudi money has completely change the premier league.

Just look at Manchester City and Newcastle. Newcastle's fans deserve to be good after the all the dogshyt they dealt with in the last ownership group.

fukk Man City and their 12 fans tho
It’s Qatari money changing the Premier League, but look at what you wrote. City was in the premier league. A middling club in a major league can get propped up and made big like City, or like Newcastle. These man think a Saudi basketball league will rival the NBA or that this Saudi Soccer League will rival the Premier League or La Liga. It’s not happening.

I agree that right now most of the ppl going there are at the end of their careers etc. Definitely not saying there's going to be a competing league for every major sport next year or anytime in near future.

But at the same time this is just the beginning. The PGA/LIV situation suggests to me that if the price is right, even established, elite competitors in their primes are willing to leave. Koepka just won another major and is the most successful player in the post Tiger era. Dustin Johnson, Cameron smith, bubba Watson, dechambeau etc etc.

:yeshrug: money talks. I dont feel sorry for the PGA cause they do the absolute minimum for their golfers

I don't feel sorry for any of these leagues etc. They're all glorified plantations. Printing money by catering to people wealthy enough to buy tickets, then extorting taxpayers and bringing politicians for our tax dollars.

What's stopping the Saudis from creating another basketball league in America and paying everyone 100 million a year?
They clearly have the money to burn

I mean you don't even have to do something that drastic. Imagine they create a league to compete against college ball. Entice the best high school players, paying them a minimum of a cpl hundred thousand up to millions for someone good enough to go pro.

FTX scammed people. Saudis execute people. FOH with this analogy.

Talking about critically thinking but can't distinguish between a regime executing innnocent people vs people who got fukked investing into something that's not regulated.

Saudis sports washing is in a completely differently level:camby:

You don't get it breh. Do you realize that we, and I mean everyone in this thread who lives in the US, are the reason the Saudi monarchy exists? That the tax dollars we pay buys the jets they use to bomb civilians, funds the obscene lifestyle of the royal family, funds terrorist attacks worldwide, funds human slavery etc. Same with all of these multinational companies that engage in all kinds of inexcusable shyt. All the kids in Africa mining for precious metals and minerals and shyt used in our phones.

"Sports washing" is one of the most ignorant and intellectually lazy concepts that's ever managed to become a buzzword.

I don't watch MMA anymore, but the Saudis need to start their own MMA league that is similar to Pride.

I'm pretty sure they've started holding some exhibition style matches already.

ITs not happening. You think it is because you think footballers are like scumbag white men who only adore money--which are most golfers. They aren't. They genuinely want to compete with the best players and win top honors in the best competition, and then eventually play against the best in international competition for their countries. playing in the Saudi League isn't that.

This is more feasible, imo.

Saudis dont really care about basketball like that.

Messi and ronaldo have been worshipped by arabs for years, which is why they are about to get messi now and complete the cypher

LIV golf was a smart play. They saw a market inefficiency and pounced on it.
Their next best play would be UFC type of thing. Interest from the fans and fighters get paid so little they can do something there.

There's a lot of false equivalency in this post but i'm gonna let you rock with that idea.

That isn't what I did. Can you read? :what:

Exactly what you did when I brought up sports washing regarding the Saudis -

I used FTX as an example, but the gambling by companies, auto industry, financial sector, athletic compnies, etc. Unless it’s some small mom and pop place, they all do it. Major corporate sponsorship is sports washing.

I said sports washing is a made-up concept that Westerners use to get upset that oppressive regimes are sponsoring sports. When you step back, "sports washing is no different than FTX or other evil multinational corporations have done with sponsoring sports

As in the sponsorships, not that FTX's crimes is the same as the fukking Saudis. All I said was atrocities are atrocities and that it is all sports washing. You ran with something else because you didn't slow down and take time to read but instead let your blood boil over for some weird reason. Slow down, read and comprehend what is written instead of sending replies. It would make this forum--and life in general--so much better if people think before they hit submit and then admit they made an error.

One thing I will say, if the US defense industry is sponsoring something---the Military All American High School All American game for example---then I have no issues comparing them to the Saudis, lol.
