Saudi money is changing the landscape for many sports. First soccer, then golf, now tennis.

All these soccer players going there are washed though.

We seen this 10 years ago with players going to China.

You still ain't gonna see a soccer player at his peak go to Saudi.

Just take a look at Man city and their title runs because of Arab Money. Its more than drawing players to Arab nations. They are buying up clubs and their clubs they buy are dominating because expenses isn't an issue

Misunderstanding when people think the primary objective of the spending bonanza is to "sportswash" Saudi reputation in the West.

The much higher imperative is to entertain and keep their domestic population satisfied, in the midst of major economic and societal transitions.

Whether its the money they're spending on soccer, boxing, and other live entertainment events the main audience are young Saudis. Unlike the rest of the Gulf, Saudis have a significant population of citizens, of varying economic classes which they have to keep in check. It’s a nationalist project that wants to convey to Saudis that their country is a major global mover and shaker and keep their focus closer to home.

Well one, they haven’t been bushed by the Biden government. We still sell the Saudis military equipment to enact a genocide in Yemen and still buy their oil and still ignore their human rights abuses to sell military equipment and buy oil.

Secondly, the Saudis deserve the Middle Eastern boogeyman claim. My only point is corporations also “sports wash,” and not to defend the Saudis.
How can the US talk about Yemen when the whole point of the war is so they can use the weapons they buy from the US as a bribe to the US military industrial complex?

:sas2:

It's like everybody forgot how on edge this country was with no sports or distractions in the middle of 2020.

I said sports washing is a made-up concept that Westerners use to get upset that oppressive regimes are sponsoring sports. When you step back, "sports washing is no different than FTX or other evil multinational corporations have done with sponsoring sports

As in the sponsorships, not that FTX's crimes is the same as the fukking Saudis. All I said was atrocities are atrocities and that it is all sports washing. You ran with something else because you didn't slow down and take time to read but instead let your blood boil over for some weird reason. Slow down, read and comprehend what is written instead of sending replies. It would make this forum--and life in general--so much better if people think before they hit submit and then admit they made an error.

One thing I will say, if the US defense industry is sponsoring something---the Military All American High School All American game for example---then I have no issues comparing them to the Saudis, lol.
Yup

Its hilarious watching westerners get in they high horse about the Saudis

Meanwhile the US Army sponsors a freaking high School all star game among other things.

Americans are dense as fukk sometimes :snoop:

The Athletic made a good point of "you like Messi and Ronaldo? We'll bring them to you" among all the other entertainment events you mentioned...

Bread and circuses amongst a greater crackdown on freedom and a more authoritarian approach by MBS
