People shytting on his Drive performance have no clue how layered his performance is. That shyt is a master class in subtleties. I bet none of you ever paid proper attention to how he's interacting with Irene's kid, or how his complexion changes when he's talking to her. In the movie's many (bytched-about) silences there's so much stuff going on, I still catch something new every time I watch it.

Keanu picks corny roles.

You reaching son.

Drive is one of the most overrated films I've heard discussed, but it has nothing to do with Gosling....

If you're going to make a film dark, it has to pack an emotional punch and the director failed to evoke any type of emotion from most adult viewers.

And if you're going to be stoic the entire movie, you at least need to have a big time screen presence.....

Faster>>>>Drive...

And that's real spit

:snoop: @ Faster. That comparison alone tells me you don't got a clue because outside of the fact the main character is only known as Driver, and they get caught up in some bullshyt. Stylistically and thematically they couldn't be more different.

This scene alone >>>>>>>> The Rock's career.

And regarding my comment about the subtleties, go to 1:35 and watch as the kiss ends. He lingers for a moment, lowers his head a bit and moves towards her again, before attacking the guy. And in that tiny moment, we see exactly what's going on in his head, that he wishes that moment could last forever. Subtlety.

Same here, go to 1:05 and look at the moment immediately after he shoots the guy. His head swings back to the window before assessing the scene. It's that quick look back that tells us that he's been in situations like this before, his actions so controlled and automatic as if he's been in them many times before. Subtlety.

If you guys weren't too busy dozing off when characters weren't talking or violence was occurring, you might notice some of this stuff.

:laff:

I compared Faster to Driver for kicks......

No shyt they aren't anything alike....

The entire pretentiousness of the movie comes off in your post and the examples you give.

The elevator scene was corny.....

Killer enters elevator...

Gosling notices killer....

What does Gosling do?

He throws his tongue down girls throat....

What does killer do? He doesn't kill them that's for sure....

He politely waits until makeout session is over...

Once kissing is complete, killer waits until Gosling and he have re-established full eye contact before going for his weapon...

Gosling stomps out killer...Elevator door opens on que....

Yall call this art and genius? :stopitslime:

And to assume that its the viewers fault that he\she didn't like the movie is :mindblown:

Keanu Reeves is a better actor than Ryan Gosling. Far better. Keanu is underrated if anything. Keanu's problem is that he chooses awful scripts, that or he overexerts himself trying to write or direct, neither of which he is good at.

He kisses her because he knows he's about to fukk that guy up and it will be the end for anything that could ever be between him and her. She'd see what kind of man he really is and it would scare her away, but he needs to be that man if he wants to protect her.

So yes, that scene is art and genius. :smugdraper:

Actually, the movie studios force Keanu to do blockbusterish campy type movies. He doesn't give a fukk. They know his name on a film = $$$. I think I remember reading that his deal is that he does a few movies that they pick and they'll finance smaller indie films that he wants to make. That's how man of tai chi got made and a few other flicks he produced and directed.

Keanu is better but Ryan Gosling is still good. Both are better than Leo or Johnny Depp.

If you read Keanu's bio shyt is actually very depressing. A lot of his best friends died in the early-mid 90's. Don't think he has a good family life, so by the late 90's he was on some fukk it depressed sh!t and just did blockbuster roles for cash.

If we go by this thread's criteria of what makes a good actor i can actually only think of three good actors.

Leo Dicaprio
Daniel Day-Lewis
Gary Oldman
