Lol Comey did not tell him on three separate occasions that he wasn't under investigation. Comey didn't tell him anything during the three times they spoke and he took that as three separate denials.

From what I just read, after the first meeting when Comey probably briefed on him on the Steele dossier, he told him he wasnt personally under investigation and on the March 30th phone call he confirmed for him that he wasn't under investigation.
