Learned this is the north man's director new movie.

I actually bought the north man and really enjoy that movie.
May have to see this one.
When I was wondering. Why is this out during holiday season tho. Seems this director may make me try this one out.

I mean, as of right now they're still being made. I still buy them sometimes if they're films I know I will watch again.

Corporations want to stop making physical media because its more profitable to just have everybody use digital services, but that process will probably take at least 5-10 years. You could also see a resurgence similar to what happened with Vinyl in recent years. I think gamers prefer having a physical disc too. Its hard to guess.

Yea streaming's almost killed it completely and brick and mortar stores barely sell them anymore. Studios are still producing catalog titles tho (Se7en, Jackie Brown and Kill Bill are just now getting 4K releases in a couple weeks). It's a small group but seeing that streaming services be editing movies and then they just remove and add them when they want will keep it from dying 100%, but it'll probably end up being where you can only buy on Amazon and direct from the studios. Prices have already basically doubled in a year (so yeah it'll be like vinyl) and black Friday sales on blurays were basically zero this year.

Loved it, visually striking as always and the atmosphere was pure dread

Bill Skarsgard is already putting in a GOAT level monster filmography between beeing Pennywise and Count Orlok

Tho I def agree w/Eggers making have a mustache; if he's an undead Transylvanian nobleman it would be inauthentic otherwise

Like most of eggers movies still hype over substance. It's not a good movie, the story is poorly delivered.

He had it setup on a platter again and because he suffers from a mind virus instead of just carrying on with the dracula story he does a dumb ass twist where a monster kills himself by acting completely outside of character smh.

Same stupid shyt he did in the northmen with the mom twist

That is one of the best swerve's and proves why.

Nope just in terms of a traditional story structure northmen swerve was ridiculous and unneeded. A art school focused swerve but not for the majority of the population and traditional epic hero story.

It's just a poor narrative choice that has relegated the film to art house acceptance and eventual ignoring verse being something that is wildly remembered and embraced by a wider audience.

In noferatu, we are following a nice re naming of the traditional dracula story. Why not just follow the story as he did the whole movie and about as good as ever done, stick the fukking landing. He couldn't do it, had to go with a shytty swerve IMHO

In my opinion the last 1/6th of the Nosferatu kills it for no reason. If he would have kept the same structure from the book and had the love between the couple show to be superior , that's one of the novel themes, I think he would have had an absolute classic and the best on screen representation of stokers work ever.

Film was great, Depp’s performance shouldn’t be a shock to anyone who’s seen other Eggers movies since they all have bizarre acting in them.
