I don't think they made a conscious decision to prioritize making more money over spending a little more to get the writing good. There are brilliant writers in this world that would write those movies for free. And terrible writing can kill the golden goose (Game of Thrones would be minting HBO cash to this day if not for season 8).

What probably happened? They just fukked up. They hired two superstar directors who were completely unaccountable to each other. Nobody had the ability to coral this because they probably didn't want to hurt the superstar director's feelings and the train was moving too fast (SFX teams in place, locations scouted, actors scheduled, etc.). Before they started, their boss (Kathleen Kennedy?) should've got them into a room and been like "So what's the plan?".

JJ Abrams prob thought it would be alright cause he had the first movie so the ability to set the story in motion. He underestimated how willing Rian Johnson was to blow up the whole trilogy for the sake of his one movie. So once the ink on the script for The Last Jedi was dry, The Rise of Skywalker was doomed. There was no where for the story to go.

LUCAS gave his good dear friend KK treatments for 6-9 and other stuff... She threw them in the garbage. She threw the EU in the legends..

The problem wasnt really the directors. KK didnt have a trilogy mapped out they made 3 movies

Given the the reception to the prequel trilogies, it just makes sense that you're gonna bush his treatment when you've got JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson. I disliked the trilogy but they're both strong writer-directors.

I agree with you that it all comes down to KK not making sure things were mapped out. And they def should've look to the extended universe for ideas.

I've seen this happen in big companies many times. The leader thinks all they have to do is hire some "superstars", put them in a room and magic will happen. The reality is you need to constantly coordinate, set the goals, make trade offs, set the boundaries while still giving everyone a feeling of autonomy, manage egos, etc.

Na
Thing is, story wise the prequels were on point. They had multiple epic scenes in each movie as well.
Yup

There's not enough to separate this world of the new trilogy from the original to make an interesting backdrop for a new series

I liked season 1 of Star Wars Resistance tho, even if it was kiddy

i could live with TFA if they went somewhere interesting with it... but Rian Johnson just wanted to subvert all expectations and JJ wanted pure remakes.
It’s Disney’s fault for not planning the story out. TFA was an extremely promising start, ANH remake or not. It was a good movie

Star Wars as always sucked

It was great in the 1970s because of the special effects, and it was unlike anything people have seen, it was a spectacle, the stupid ass story didn't matter it was all about the presentation.

And I use to think star wars was a kids movie, but I was wrong, it really is a huge brand meant to cover almost every demographic, and I see why it made all this money.

Even back at the first release, people were dressing up in the costumes and doing all that shyt the star wars nerds do now

George designed so the parents would take their kids to see it but can enjoy it as well, it as a family film that's why its been successful for generations, because the parent gets hooked on it, then his kids get hooked on it, and then they take their kids to see star wars, it just becomes its own thing.

But was a chance a time that will never happen again, it was the perfect storm

trying to recapture that with the exact same brand isn't going to work, it has to do something new

the stars wars of today is something we haven't seen that before, that will excite the people to the point they have to go to see it

last movie to have any type of effect like that was the The Matrix, which is no wonder they are trying to dig that back up, the bullet time special effect, and high budget kung fu wiring, it was the overall look , even though Blade was the first movie with bullet time, Matrix presented in a way that had the overall look of a live action anime movie, or a high budget kung fu movie, which is an oxymoron.

Anyone expecting anything star wars to be good is fooling themselves, the idea is tired, the movies were always trash, and special effects aren't wowing audiences anymore because they haven't been jaw dropping in a long time.

Too much reliance on technology not every reliance on art design and creativity, the overall aesthetics of a film is more important the big budget effects.

MCU did something people never seen before and was bring comic book characters who aren't "grounded" versions of the character to motion pictures, but i believe that is getting old, and this next phase of mcu movies won't out do the last.

it's a travesty how a property as huge as Star Wars was not mapped out before the trilogy began. That's almost unfathomable.

Literally this.

TFA was fukking trash and a straight up copy of ANH. Not only the plot was the same, the setup for next movie was the same as ANH. Deathstar destroyed, Rey/Luke goes to trained with Jedi master.

The criticism that TFA inspired Rian Johnson to subvert expectations with the sequel.

TFA does not get the blame for what it ultimately cause. If Rian Johnson didn't subvert, we would probably got The Empire Strikes Back remake
