Nas had 94 biggie had 95 pac 96 cube ran 90-91. Wayne 07-11 drake running sht now there are no ties in rap

Did Nas really have '94 alone though? Snoop was still big in 1994. Method Man was big that year. Wu, Bone, and Kast were big that year too. Pac had a huge 1995. Nas was also big on 1996.

2007 also had Kanye and T.I. 2008 also had T.I. 2009 had Jay Z and Eminem. Wayne was nowhere near the biggest rapper in 2010. That year had Ross, Drake, and Eminem. Nicki Minaj was bigger than Wayne in 2010. 2011 had Watch The Throne and Drake.

94-Illmatic's impact
95-RTD's impact

Wayne was bigger than Kanye in 07. Drought 3 with C3 leaks plus being on literally every hot song made him hotter. Which is why C3 sold more than Grad. Wayne maintained his heat until 2011 which is why he produced the biggest fw sales of anyone you named during that time in 2011. Wayne was in jail but his hype didn't die. Jay and Em were established artists with older fans. Younger fans didnt look up to them the way they did Wayne. Were they popular still? Yes. But the youth was more interested in Wayne.

Or did Ruff Ryders hop on Jay's wave? Jay's biggest songs from that era had nothing to so with Ruff Ryders. The biggest song off the Ruff Ryders compilation was a Jay solo though.
Jay literally talked with Irv trying to figure out how to make moves like them fam. DMX was bigger back then why u revising history lmao

Snoop was bigger than Nas in 1994. The impact of Doggystyle was still strong that year. Method's debut isn't viewed anywhere near the magnitude of Illmatic, but Meth was huge that year. The idea that Nas ran 1994 is revisionist. Nothing you're saying here nullifies my post.

Kanye>>>> Wayne in 2007. That was the whole Kanye vs 50 and Kanye won. Kanye had the biggest album that year and several hit songs. His impact in 2007>>>> Wayne's.

C3 came out in 2008 and Graduation came out in 2007.

Wayne was top tier from 2007-2011. You can't argue for Wayne and then say Jay Z was never #1.

The youth isn't the only factor.

Breh, you're revising history. If you make this a sales argument. Jay Z dropped one album in 1998 that was bigger than either X album. In 1999, DMX eclipsed Jay sales wise. And while we're at it, in terms of sales Juve is in the convo as is Lauryn (even though she sang, she was still viewed as an MC at the time).

None of this changes the fact, that RR benefited from Jay as much as he benefited from them. Besides Jay and X were in a group with Ja.

Snoop was bigger yes but Nas had a larger impact on rap that year. He was the reason New York went back to being the face of rap after west coast dominance with Snoop and Dre.

Wayne was bigger than Kanye in 07. Everyone wanted Wayne on their song in 2007, including Kanye. Kanye was big but Wayne was bigger, made a larger impact, had a more anticipated album, and is actually a legitimate rapper.

I can absolutely argue Jay was never number 1. Jay never took the spot of someone else. There was always someone hotter than Jay. X in 98. Em from 99-03. 50 in 03. T.I. in 06..

Who sold more in 98? Who had more hits in 98? You adding Lauryn and Juve only proves my point about Jay. You not gonna sit here and claim Jay had a larger impact than DMX in 98 when DMX dropped TWO classics in one year, killed the shiny suit era, and has the most memorable song of the two. Stop it.

You talking bout me revising history when you mention Juve like his tape didnt drop in November stop fam

Again, Jay sold more than either X album. Lauryn is definitely in the 1998 convo.

Juvenile was clearly a 1999 contender.

Snoop had Jermaine Dupri grooming Da Brat as a female Snoop in 1994. The sound of Snoop's Doggystyle was more dominant than Illmatic. Nas was not the reason for the shift. That is revisionist. Snoop was still killing it when Illmatic dropped and after.

Wayne was not bigger than Kanye in 2007. Kanye turned the tides in 2007 with Graduation.

If you're saying Jay was never #1, there's no way you could argue Wayne was #1 for any year except 2008.

Em was not hotter than Jay from 00-03. 2001, Jay was hotter than Eminem.

Nas had '94? Oh really? Yeah bruh, nah. You couldn't have been there. Especially if you bringin' up sales for these other years and you think Nas was it in '94. That definitely didn't happen. Nas wasn't the guy that year. He was the guy who had an incredible album that should've been doing better than it did. That's the most revisionist thing in this thread.

I agree, it's like 3.5/4 ish to me, but the narrative is that it was widely panned by fans and critics and that's not true.

I think it was split down the middle, moreso even than It Was Written. Remember the WTF convos after hearing he had a song with Puff. I think the only reason it doesn't get bashed more, is because the bootleg catered to the other fans.

For me, it's prob my least played Nas album. Didn't like most of it then, still don't like most of it.

Real motherfn Gz being this heralded, epic no vaseline level diss
Mah, Real Compton City G'z was a favorite of everyone. That ish was in heavy rotation on BET & The Box. Now, if you want to talk about the album, yeah...no one played it.

Meth prob had '94. Biggie for '95. If you want to give Nas any year, it would be '96. Pac can be given '93..or Snoop.
