even if the offense is not much more dynamic....what exactly do we have to lose ?

The reliability of the veteran.

The last 2 weeks you saw clear signs of inexperience from Kaep. His mistakes led to 10 points yesterday, they're young mistakes but he is a young player.

If we're going to be getting the same production o f about 200-225 yards passing and 1-2 touchdowns from the QB, we gotta go with the one who isn't gonna make critical errors.

I`m all for Kaep in 2013, fresh start from day one. I just know that when we get to the playoffs theres gonna be enough film on him, people will scheme for him and his inexperience will be a big liabilty.

I think we forget how clean and comfy the pocket was for Kaep in Chicago and New Orleans. For the most part he had all day to sit back and carve up chicago, NO brought somre more pressure but nothing serious.

Yesterday the Rams brought serious heat at him and he got sacked and his game changed a lot

Our 8 year vet looks inexperienced at times, too. You were just waiting for this game to shyt on the kid.

I think this is the main thing about the QB situation.

I don't agree with it. I'm more iffy about Alex' limitations than Kaep's potential mistakes (that Alex can have too, see the Giants and Vikings games), just because I think Kaep can make plays that Smith can't when we need them the most (see 3rd downs, extending plays). I'm willing to gamble because we have Harbaugh, and people seem to forget that.

I don't agree with you at all, bnut I respect your opinion because you stated your reasoning, unlike a lot of folks in this discussion who just seem to despise the idea of Smith being the QB.

I agree that Kaep can make them big plays out of nowhere that Smith really cannot do. But the third down stuff is getting blown out of proportion, our 3rd down effeciency went up from last season by like 10% this year. Alex struggled so much on third down because we had no playmakers at WR last year.

I do believe Kaep is still better at converting third downs though, but the game isn't solely played on third down.

I think something people are clearly ignoring in this, is that Kaepernick's production has declined since his first start. Nobody wants to address this but we all know it's true. Do we even win the New Orleans game if not for 2 defensive touchdowns?

Not saying the kid can't get back on track, but his situation is looking like every backup QB scenario we've seen in the past. Dude comes in, catches people off guard and plays well, people start to gameplan and scheme for him, making him less effective.

But when you do watch him you see the potential greatness, his talent just floors you at times. It's not even that he looks bad, he just looks young and inexperienced.

TYRONE GA!
I'd still rather let Kaep cook and continue to play. If he starts the game shaky next week, we can always bring Alex in.

We probably don't win without Brook's pick 6. But we sure as hell don't win that game with Alex at QB. It had everything we've seen before for a "Smith can't win you games" discussion (no run game until late in the 4th, the need for big passes on 3rd & long, other team getting pressure on the 1st half).

And Kaep played really well, in the first half he got fukked by drops and dumb ass penalties, but he made plays were Alex would've taken sacks. And he also had that HUGE 9 minute drive (similar to what Alex did to the Lions this season).

The Saints game wasn't a regression at all, imo. It wasn't as perfect as the Bears game, but showed me a lot of great stuff and only 1 mistake (awful pass to Moss in the endzone). I don't see Alex helping us score 17 points in that game.

You are afraid of Kaep inexperience, I get that. But I see Harbaugh managing to hide that in a more successful way than hiding Alex's limitations going forward. I'm willing to take that risk.

I`m not gonna even be mad if Kaep is starting next week, he has played well at times and has shown that he can win some games.

My expectations of this season has changed drastically though.

I just don't believe you hide inexperience all the way to a Super Bowl victory. That isn't happening, and that's what I wanted out of this season.

I think we win that Saints game with Alex, I think Alex manages to put up 17 points on that defense, just off of past history it seems only logical to me.

We're on the same page about Brooks pick 6, that won that game for us essentially. I do think a lot of people are glancing over some of Kaep's play in that Saints game, there were times he looked very rattled by the situation and atmosphere of that game, especially the 2nd quarter. But he did make some big plays in that one as well, that's why I said he played good.

Chicago - Great
New Orleans - Good
St. Lois - Mediocre bordering bad.

This is one of the biggest reasons Kaep is starting. How many sacks has he taken since he's become the starter? By my count, 2. Alex would've taken at least 10 - 12 sacks in these last 3 games.

Funny thing is he also killed us on a play where Alex would have taken a sack.

That safety came when we had the ball on the 17 yard line, instead of just taking a sack or throwing it away (an Alex move) he ran back 20 yards to escape pressure and ended up causing the safety.

bytch about the refs or whatever on that one, but you can't run back 20 yards when you're on the 17 yard line. I wish he would have just taken a sack on that play.

Avoiding sacks the way he does isn't always a good thing, if yall remember the first Rams game he avoided one by scrambling backwards and he got a strip sack on him which luckily we recovered, it can allow big plays, on either side of the ball. I prefer the dude who avoids the sack by footwork in the pocket. Not the Tony Romo type run-around like wildly to get away.

You can't always avoid sacks in the pocket by sliding/footwork. When the pressure is right in his face, Kaep does a good job of avoiding it where Alex would just crumple and take the sack.

I get your point of running backwards 20 yards, which was idiotic; I'm not disputing that point. But in the grand scheme of things, I think it's bad to say that Kaep avoiding sacks rather than taking them is a bad thing.

For better or worse, though, this game isn't even that big of a deal if Akers makes that kick. I said last week that the Niners needed to address this issue before it costs them a game, and it did. Hopefully now they'll move on from Akers.
I understand having games like this offensively because we have had a quite a few of them. What I can't forgive is Akers missing a makeable field goal in OT for the 2nd time.

Yes, but in reality Akers shouldn't even have been in position to have to make that kick. We gave the rams 10 points and we only scored 13. it's hard to put the game on Akers miss, I get what you're saying if he makes it we win, but it's a team effort,

Kaep doesn't run back 20 yards like he's playing Madden and doesn't make a God awful pitch then we win the game then Akers never has to attempt a 51 yard field goal in OT.

I`m not saying Kaep avoiding sacks is a bad thing, all i`m saying is avoiding sacks in the way that he does so isn't always a positive result. Yesterday was a good example of that. Sometimes it's better to take the small loss than the risk taking a big one just to escape the pressure.

Kaep showed last week how to avoid a sack vs. NO when he stepped into the pocket and hit Walker across the middle for a big gain. That's the type of sack avoiding I want to see.

This Tony Romo-Brett Favre shyt is not a good habit to get into.

We could talk about yestedays game all day, but to try and move onto another topic.

Our defense is playing great at this point, i`m real happy to see them start to pick it up down the stretch. The pass rush has stepped up the last few games and check out the league standings

-1st in PPG allowed with 14.3, 2 points ahead of #2 team
-2nd in YPG allowed
-2nd in Passing YPG allowd
-4th in Rushing YPG allowed (Some might call that putrid)
-Aldon got 17.5 sacks, 5 off the NFL record with 4 games left, one being AZ.

We're not forcing as many turnovers, but overall this defense is playing better than it was in 2011 in my opinion.

BTW, this losing every third game shyt would make perfect sense.

I can see us beating Miami & New England the next 2 weeks, then we got Seattle in Seattle.
