Never forget that the Republicans, even the moderate ones, are motivated to win at all costs. The strategy of the opposition seems to just put forth tbt argument that unless they get what they want, no one wins. I think there are plenty that will just give in.

It's ironic there's a person named Jordan involved, because McCarthy could easily go 0-6 in votes. :mjlol:

Perfectly stated.

These kinds of GOP power struggles seem crazy only because Dems don’t understand the idea of leverage. They always fold. Republicans on the other hand, even if they only control 5 votes, if those 5 votes are the difference maker, they will hold out until they get what they want. Obviously no way to easily prove but I’d bet anything there are discussions taking place behind the scenes to offer the recalcitrant MAGAs some serious post congressional career financial incentives.

Hot takes from coli brehs who know nothing about politics yet again.

Right now the entire reason the GOP is in their current situation is because the Democrats are standing as a united block and refusing to budge. They are all voting in unison for Hakeem Jeffries. If the democrats were not united right now, McCarthy would have become speaker yesterday.

It's the Republicans who don't understand the power of leverage. Democrats are holding out until they get what they want. And right now they are making a play for joint control of the house.

And if any democrat breaks rank, McCarthy would win. But they are all refusing to budge.

You ain't have to go at breh like that at the beginning, but you are correct that the Democrats are taking advantage of the situation by just voting for their guy every time.

It's becoming increasingly clear that McCarthy doesn't stand a chance of winning, because there's no deal he can cut that gets him the win. Jordan, at least thus far, seems to be legit I'm not wanting the speaker position, so his nomination exists only to shuffle votes around between two losing candidates. Someone over there with the GOP needs to be the adult in the room, and point out how fukking they look to have spent years talking about how effective they'll be when they get control of the house back, only to waste a solid portion of their first week with the majority bickering with each other.

You're right, I didn't have to go at him that hard. It's just a little sickening to me when people have all this criticism of Democrats (who deserve to be criticized, don't get me wrong) while lauding Republicans. We could see Republicans shooting their constituents in the head literally, and some coli breh will still come in saying, "At least Republicans were in front of their constituents, where are the democrats?"

It's disingenuous and ignorant.
