Everyone back then thought she was fire cause she would play a little Fur Elise during shows....she was a novelty, a pseudo-lite brite that

A little 5 year-old could play that...

Everytime she has a feature, they outshine her quickly...."Fire We Make" is a good example, Maxwell was going ham on that track....AK was whispering and straining to keep up...

The most annoying thing about her performances is when she pretends to be hood, "Chea...that's right"....

If Alicia came out in the 60s, she would barely make the opening act at a poetry slam....
that's the truth. The industry wouldn't spend the amount of money they did to make her a star on just anyone. there's a few artists that are just bank rolled until they succeed... Lizzo and Lana Del Ray are currently that.

Exactly....

And hell, I'm not gonna lie. I actually thought back then and still think shes lesbian or at least bisexual. Shes very butch, masculinish. Even the whole "sex symbol" shyt they tried to push to the straight male audience seems inauthentic as fukk. I don't think shes into guys.

Who was she linked to before swizz beats anyway?
What does any of this have to do with her as an artist?
:heh:
Who she’s been romantically linked to?

I could be mistaken but I swear her debut album was supposed to be called something else but they changed the name to Songs in A Minor right before it was released to market the album a certain way. Could be why the songs on the album are not in A minor :yeshrug:
I always figured it was just a play on the fact that her name begins with the letter A

Rikk was an a$$hole but he wasnt a liar

To me, she was always a marginal talent. She can't sing but her voice is just pleasant enough for the casual radio listeners to enjoy it. When she actually tries to hit notes, you can hear the strain. Her whole roll-out was def very gimmicky, light skinned exotic bi-racialwho could connect to Compton and classical music lol

I'm not saying she all the way trash but I could def understand why Rikk wouldn't be impressed.

And yea she for sure a dyke...i could tell when i could hear her real butch voice at certain moments on "Fallin" and "Woman's Worth"

The title is clickbait. It is not really about Prince at all, but Rick's thoughts on music at that time.

I can see no one watched this.

Part of his theory for why so many artists today sample and copy and remake old songs is because that's all they have to work with.

Because kids arent learning and experimenting with the fundamentals of music in schools or whatever. So what else are they gonna do but chop up someone else's work?

The result is stalled progression or evolution in the art

I'm talking about her image which basically played a huge part in her success. The hype machine and her image sold her music. Not the music itself. Notice how she flopped and fell off once she was no longer working with Clive. I already address the test run they did to the people before they tweaked her image.

Folks will overrate these artist based off of the hype they get.

She’s talented but I could see why someone from Rick James generation wouldn’t have been impressed.

Breh... I'm 99.9999% sure she's a dyke. It was either 2001 or 2002 when she accepted an award at MTV or the Grammys. .. breh. . The way she walked up to the stage like she had a dikk, acting all thugged out. Her acceptance speech was so hood: "yeah yeah you feel me... shout out to my homies!" :dead:

I didn't even know what a lesbian was back then but I knew for a fact she wasn't into dikk AT ALL. shyt was too obvious. I'm sure that acceptance speech has been wiped out from existence because since then she's done a U-Turn on her image. Clive probably told her to cut that butch shyt out or she'll lose her mainstream appeal.
I think that was the 2001 VMAs. You’re right it’s not on YouTube. She was like “I want to thank my moms for holding me down”. :russ:

C'Mon Rick.

Looked like a straight ass critiquing the title of her album, then what keys the songs are played in, like all the songs where supposed to be played in A minor.

He has the right to say that Rick was a seasoned musician, he knew what he was talking about. Like I said in another thread, I like Alicia Keys, but she in not at the level of a Stevie or MJ despite having the comparable accolades.

I think she is an excellent songwiter, I'll give her that

but her singing and piano skills are average.
