there is nothing masculine about her acceptance speech or how she walked up to the podium

Karu F. Daniels of EURweb.com chatted with R&B legend Rick James. Amongst his headline grabbing
comments were those on Alicia Keys. “She calls her album, ‘Songs In A Minor,’ and all of the songs are in E
and D,” he explained. “I don’t think she knows her grammatic skill, personally. I think she’s ‘The Gong Show.’
When she did the Donny Hathaway song in front of millions of people and fu**ed it up, that just goes to show
you right there what’s going on…What about Rachelle Ferrell, or Lalah Hathaway? What about all these
serious bytches that can really sing? Alicia Keys? Because Clive Davis eats the best See’s Candies and
gives the best whatever, and wants to show Whitney [Houston] that she ain’t sh**, yeah, he’s going to put his
effort in Alicia Keys.”
Interviewer: Well, Alicia is playing the piano
Rick James: Yeah, in a key of A flat, right? Try playing one of those songs in A flat.
The album is called A Minor! A Minor, A Flat we call it A Flat. A Minor -- my ass. Minor is giving her an A-Plus. Well, she is a minor.
Interviewer: You dont cut these new kids no slack, huh?
Rick James: I got a 13 year old girl in Buffalo who will take Alicia Keys eat her up and spit her out like a suppository. Im not saying her name because shes underage, number one, and her mother is a friend and wont let her get in the business because shes in church

They came from an era where you had to have talentWhy a lot of music is disposable as fukk these days
He’s right we are not critical enough when it comes to music ... notice the white girls took off right after Alicia got on ... showing that they can make candy R&B from anyone
While I don't exactly agree with his criticisms, we definitely don't hold these newer artists to higher standards and it definitely has an impact on the longevity of the music.
There's songs back in the 70's and 80's I thought were number one hits, that barely made a blip on billboard when I checked...that run circles around all of the shyt coming out now.
And I'm not trying to sound like a cranky old man on his generational divide shyt, but something changed in the early 2000's that made the quality of music tank. Not sure if it's the homogenation of genres, or the influx of electronic and computer music, or the accessibility of music studios or what.
Now that everyone can make a studio in their fukking bathroom, people don't rehearse shyt anymore, they don't practice. They just lay it down and fix it in post-production.
Even industry plants back in the day had talent...this microwave music industry just like everything that is microwave fukking sucks. I can't stand when artists talk about making a whole song in 15 minutes. That shyt is ass...
Because every made music back then, people laugh at everybody being a rapper, but its a lot of rappers only few can rap
back then everybody could sing great, everybody could play instruments, everybody could dance, black people had soul, the competition was higher.
Today there is no talent in the hood, all the culture has been stripped from the hood, nothing but ignorance
no good music comes from the hood, when that use to be the source, the church is no longer big in black culture, that is where most people learned how to sing and play etc
Everyone back then thought she was fire cause she would play a little Fur Elise during shows....she was a novelty, a pseudo-lite brite that
A little 5 year-old could play that...
Everytime she has a feature, they outshine her quickly...."Fire We Make" is a good example, Maxwell was going ham on that track....AK was whispering and straining to keep up...
The most annoying thing about her performances is when she pretends to be hood, "Chea...that's right"....
If Alicia came out in the 60s, she would barely make the opening act at a poetry slam....
H.E.R is better in every way than AK...
