Obviously the record labels can make or break a city cause they bring out a lot of talent and opportunity. Like in big cities like NY and LA, people go there just to be heard.
Kriss Kross were one hit wonders I don't take em serious but I will give u arrested development. Outkast seemed to have had a way bigger impact and more success than AD tho.
In my eyes Outkast take the title. Outkast is to good Atlanta hip hop what NWA was to Compton, etc.

Who else from Atlanta would u give that title to? TLC don't really count in my book, they were hip hop but had more of an R&B vibe and u also can't say that TLC is better than Kast.

yeah but to those who prefer east coast hardcore hip hop they are obviously going to be biased towards that. those who prefer soulful down south hip hop are gonna be biased towards that. thats the point i was making. it's still the same thing. i like all the artists mentioned in this thread i just can't wrap my head around comparing them like they're at all similar.

C'mon now dog. U said several times that you DIDN'T place them on the upper echelon and that they DIDN'T really put Atlanta on the map. Go back and read the thread. You said they didn't even have a deep impact in the south. Ur back tracking like a motha right now. I didn't imagine these things, they were all ur words.

im not back-tracking anything. those arent insults. its the truth. the problem is that you seem to have an emotional investment in this group.
soso def/laface is the reason atlanta became atlanta... TLC was a part of that. Laface put out accessible music, made mad money... Atlanta popped. i cant give that to outkast alone. kriss kross/arrested development all had success in atlanta before outkast
thank you. and im glad that you brought up arrested development. they basically laid the groundwork for outkast, especially from atliens on out. i always looked at outkast as a more-skilled version of speech. also, it should be noted that all the props that outkast gets on the commercial end are the props that were at one time designated for arrested development. all outkast did was fill the lane when A.D. phased out.....and it even took kast a while to succeed in doing that.
arrested development was winning grammys, had virtually the same style for the most part, etc. yet, outkast paved their own way? its amazing.
