Reading and math competency chart broken down by race and state. Black Americans are doing pitiful.

It’s definitely a mix of all these issues let’s not make this complicated

Systemic and generational racism leading to poorer communities and underfunded social programs

Terrible parenting and/or incompetent parenting where it’s basically the blind trying to tack and lead the blind

A culture of despondence towards education and opportunity outside of sports and entertainment and illegal activities

Any I miss?
it's definitely a multitude of factors. very complicated. the school has an important part to play as well as the parents. either one lacking hurts, and when both are lacking the kid just has very little chance

Black kids don't take education seriously. Any black person that went to a primary black school would tell you the same. It's the same concept in England and Canada to my understanding. Black kids more focused on being "real" and trying to look cool. Black kids in the west, generally speaking, don't take education seriously. Cats embarrassing themselves globally, hate to see it:francis:.

I keep saying it:yeshrug:

This shyt is a direct reflection of the household. Education doesn’t stop at school.

The ppl who excel have parents who are actively involved in their education. Reading to/with your child after school. Checking homework and assignments. Working WITH the teachers, not against.

This shyt is embarrassing as hell.

Don’t wanna sound like a c00n but the black community in general doesn’t prioritize education.

Also we love trends and what’s cool and being smart/education/reading has never been cool.

In a couple generations the divide between educated and uneducated black people is gonna be huge and I feel like it’s gonna lead to a lot of internal problems

The black kids who grew up reading, mom a social worker, dad an accountant or some shyt, in college for engineering or whatever… other than being black what are they really gonna have in common with their less educated peers in the future? :hubie:
Nothing

The shows/movies they watch are probably gonna be different, and their folks are probably gonna have them listening to different music. They’re gonna be in different activities too. Let’s just be fr

Well it correlates with the recent thread in here about income levels for black people :francis:
It's becoming more and more obvious that the government will not save us. The strongest influence on black culture has perhaps shifted from entertainment to social media and so far the results ain't good
I'm not sure what the real solution to this is. Telling people to raise their kids better is obvious but yet not that feasible if the parents themselves are ignorant, dumb, and distracted by popping balloons

Y'all bring up funds, but 1)You can't just throw money at this problem 2)Poor people from other countries come over and succeed. I'm willing to bet our reading and math levels where higher when we fought to get access to schools compared to now.

It starts from the home. You can be rich, but your kids can still be ignorant and dumb.

Remember the college admissions scandal with all these rich celebrities that their kids were so dumb they had to bribe people to get their kids in college. Which happens a lot they just got caught.

I grew up with poor people who were smart because the home provided us with education. So as adults we shared the same experiences. When my pops came home from work and dropped the newspaper on the table I would read that paper, if I came up to a word I didn't know I had a dictionary and a thesaurus. If I had to do research for history I had an encyclopedia to help. This is pre everyone had internet access in their home.

Having a home life that stressed education it just wasn't about reading, writing and arithmetic to get a piece of paper. It was also about having life and social skills to take care of yourself. How are you going to feed yourself, clothe yourself, pay your bills if you can't read or do basic math. How are you going to sign papers for a bank loan or get a new car or sign an apartment lease if you can't read, write or spell. There are people out here that can't spell their full names in print or cursive.

It’s sad. What does one do with this information?
:patrice:
Make sure your district is getting the resources it needs. Attend PTA meetings. Hold your superintendent accountable. Attend parent teacher meetings. Be involved with your children. Get reading tutors. Hold your children accountable. Less screen time. Complete homework with your children. Read to them everyday. Get them in headstart as soon as possible. Model what hard work and dedication looks like. Have a great coparenting relationship with the other parent of your child.

It takes a village and our village is failing. It still starts at home. A healthy environment is key.
:francis:
Parenting is hard work and many people don’t take it serious enough. Protect you eggs. Protect your seed.
This is what it comes down to in the end.

If this is an issue of parenting like many of you suggest it is, then is it fair to reason that Black people aren't good parents given the data?

Issues are not in a vacuum. Every race has bad parents but them you add other issues they don't face that are prevalent against black people and you get a bigger issue. This is logic.

What's sad is I've also realized something: many parents who "try to give their kids what they didn't have" tend to go overboard and be bad parents because they don't know what good parenting really is either. Some of them simply end up raising spoiled ass kids with zero skills and discipline.

Having bad parents is a disaster man.

They need to have a partner that was from a good household to counteract it so it's not the blind leading the blind. I think that's a big, big factor. That's actually a big thing in many cultures, to get their parents' approval those parents would often ask their kids "Where are his/her parents from?" It may be very traditional, but it may act as a safeguard to protect a lot of stupid shyt from happening and bad decisions being made. It protects the lineage.

Horny people in unstable households do this. We need a psychological evaluation on having kids, period.
