I'd say Pusha has underperformed by his own metrics... One of the most consistent underlying themes in his music throughout his entire career has been the whole "I'm the uncrowned king of hip hop" narrative where he sees himself as the true successor to the Biggie and Jay-Z tier of guys that have "run the game"...but he has never actually mattered enough to get close to that level... the rap game as pro wrestling is one of my favorite analogies.... And in that context he's a guy that never really made it properly to the midcard, but thinks he should be world champion and in the main event.... Pusha thinks he's prime Shawn Michaels, but in reality he's Dolph Ziggler... The resentment of that fact and his petty jealousies of the guys that have actually carried the championship is the root cause of rap fields over the years...but ultimately there's nothing wrong with being a solid sub midcard guy that can always be counted on to a solid performer... Can't everyone be the champ

Pusha still got an album produced by Puff which speaks volumes, he’s reached a level without making bullshyt pop tunes for his catalog. I bet most don’t even know that.

And this is still not registering to you. Pusha is the same artist that told us that no artist got better beats from Kanye and Pharrell than him. When we look at Kanye's track record and Pharrell's track record with other artists, he underachieved given the volume of work he's had with both. I will say Clipse maximized their work with The Neptunes because Lord Willin' and Hell Hath No Fury is among THE BEST Neptunes production. It's still worth looking at though because for all the acclaim, and how huge the singles were and The Neptunes cranking out hits for everybody, Lord Willin wasn't bigger.

I just read this entire thread and I really wish I didn't. Here is what you are not registering. You have typed over 50000 words across the last 24 hours making a strawman argument about a non-consequential point about a 45 year old faux drug kingpin rapper's career. Either he fukked your girl, sold you some baking soda and called it coke, or you are one of Drake's tent writers on a stretch assignment patrolling the internet gassing anti-Push posts. I don't know if you need suicide prevention or encouragement, but it's definitely 1 of the 2 :mjlol:

And you keep referencing 2 specific records - out of 100 tracks Push has dropped in the last 10 years - like they actually help your argument? Have you ever LISTENED to Sweet Serenade or MFTR? Neither of these are pop records. Bris Brown has spent 1/3 of his career trying to be a Blood Superthug, and this specific record is very dark in tone and came out during the time he was trying extra to prove to everyone he was a gangsta. The Dream record is more upbeat but the hook is about waving guns and making it bang, in a damn church if you watch the video, while Push is talking his usual shyt. Apparently in your simple ass mind getting any singer to feature on a track is an attempt to go mainstream regardless of what they actually singing about :comeon:

For the larger group in this thread, there is no legitimate way to prove one way or another if Push has overachieved or underachieved in his career because the goalposts move every day and most of the talking points are subjective and arbitrary. So much time and effort being wasted, half of y'all gotta be AI bots. I promise you can log off the computer and go outside once in a while :lolbron:

Pusha is exactly in the position he is supposed considering the climate he went solo. Another time where music sits and is digest over a period of time his output would've been more notable. Same for the Clipse aswell

Or maybe I just have an objective opinion about a 45 year old rapper who has had Pharrell and Kanye helming his albums. I've seen you all roast rappers as flops who had the same tools at their disposal as Pusha T.

This whole 45 year old rapper who doesn't make mainstream hits schtick isn't going to work. Pusha T is the same age as 2 Chainz. Both of them were signed to G.O.O.D. even appearing on the same songs. Both were 1/2 of a duo prior to signing to G.O.O.D Music. Both of them changed their original stage name (Push came in the game as Terror). They both re-branded themselves as solo artists. You would quickly say "Feds Watching" by Chainz is a commercial attempt in spite of its content. Compare 2Chainz and Push, both of whom had the same tools, have similar content and similar career paths going into G.O.O.D Music. Chainz has essentially been far more successful as a solo artist making D Boy rap music than Pusha and they are the same age, label mates, and had Kanye and Pharrell producing for them.

Despite how dark the Chris Brown record is, it is still a commercial record. There are a lot of mainstream records that are dark.

Still doesn't equate to better career. Push dropped his first solo in 2013. 2Chainz dropped his in 2012. In the past decade or so, Push only has ONE solo anything with a certification and that's "If You Know You Know". 2Chainz meanwhile has several songs that have certifications even songs that don't have features. He actually has a platinum album to his name.
