Rate This City: Day 17 - Charlotte

It’s cool...went to college in Greensboro, I’ve been back to Charlotte a few time since then. The Atlanta comparisons are unfortunate because Charlotte just isn’t Atlanta, not as big or dynamic. But it has a lot of other things going for it, nice sized black middle class, big city feel with a small town vibe, a couple pro teams. If Atlanta is a 10, Charlotte is a solid 8. Good city to raise a family in too

where does Charlotte rank with the other southern cities like Nashville and Birmingham?

Wait a second. Just looked at the leaderboard and there is no way you can sit here and tell me Charlotte is the 4th best city?? Better than Atlanta, Philly, Chicago, Houston? I understand personal preference but this is dead wrong.

If you look at the GOAT tier southern cities

It’s ATL, HOU, DC, Dallas, Miami & NO

That next tier is interesting with Austin, Raleigh, Charlotte, Nashville, Tampa, Birmingham. I think Charlotte is a nice city but I’d put it slightly behind Nashville & Raleigh as far as tech startup scene and ahead of Birmingham as far as an overall environment. Charlotte is basically middle of the pack of that second tier of cities IMO

I can’t front..... if I was like late 40s, with a family and a job in the medical field...... I’d move to Raleigh.

But if you young and vibrant and still love a little bit of fukkery....... Charlotte is the place to live

A homie I went to college with got his house built in Birmingham. So much land out there. What you think about Hampton Roads? Virginia Beach and Norfolk. where would you put them??

that's why I feel we need criteria. Shopping, NIghtlife, Downtown, Education, food. I mean even the hbcu's are further out so we can't really count that. Most people have Charlotte as a tier 2 southern city.
