Me and my wife both wanna move there in the next 5 years. I grew up in Minneapolis and she's from IL. I've been there a few times and it always reminded me of home but a southern version so warmer and blacker. Seems like a dope midsized city in that its a real city but it ain't as overwhelming crowded as Chicago (where I lived for 5 years) or other East coast cities. Is that an accurate vibe from those that live there? Also any thoughts/advice to someone considering moving down that way?
Tell me more about Minny fam. Kicked it up there this past weekend. Minus being cold as balls, kinda fukked with the vibe there. Friendly people but they minded there biz. Them Somalis :banderas:

I hate when out of townners talk about how cheap and affordable CLT is. Before the big boom of people from other areas "discovering" Charlotte, it used to be a very affordable place in keeping with most Southern cities. The influx of people from the North East and other places have driven up the prices of everything because transplants will gladly pay 50% more than what something used to cost because its still "cheaper than back home."

Charlotte is a great place but I feel like its being built up to accommodate people not from Charlotte as opposed to the traditional residents. There was an article a couple years ago about the lack of economic mobility in Charlotte. Basically, people born poor in the city usually stay poor...and at higher rates than other areas. If you're already educated with strong marketable skills that wants a clean city you can gentrify from the locals. Charlotte is your spot.

This month makes one year that I’ve been living here.

It was voted the #1 most suburban big city and I must say you definitely get a feel for that right away.

It is not a “walkable/walk friendly” city by any means and therefore posses little to no urban feel to it, until you get to the center(uptown).

Beautiful women.

Lots of things to do every day of the week.

I don’t have any complaints about the night life thus far.

Traffic gets heavy during the expected times of the day but never actually “gridlocks” like in most major cities, unless there’s an accident up ahead or something. So for me, I don’t mind the traffic that most people complain about. It typically stays moving forward, no matter how congested it may get. It keeps moving.

Cost of living is high if you want to live in a decent area. But then again what’s “high” is relative. It may not seem high at all to someone moving from NY or DC.

More eating spots than you’ll ever get around to trying.

Has pro sports teams.

Only 3-4 hour drive to Atlanta, which is great if you just wanted to head to the A for an event or concert or just for the weekend.

The locals have managed to maintain the down-to-earthiness/attitude as the Blacks out in SmallTown, NC. This is kinda cool because you don't have to deal with that cold snobby vibe of your typical big city person. They act like country boys here, yet it’s the city.

I found it easy to learn my way around and I now rarely have to hop on my GPS unless I mc going somewhere I’ve never been.

People are very outdoorsy and active, always out running etc.

Crime exists, but compared to other cities the same size and some even smaller- pshhh- it’s a nice change of pace and has a safe vibe to it around most parts of town.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.

i fully agree with this. People from NJ, NY and DC failed to realize people in the south aren’t getting pay checks that are as big as theirs so while it looks affordable to us I know it’s not as affordable to you guys who are born and raised there.

One thing I always like to do when researching cost of living is the poverty rate, and job sectors and see what the pay is like.

I just found out my friend who moved to Charlotte makes 80K in a Senior level auditing role which I believe would be a six figure salary up here.

but granted 85K is great especially since she wants a house out there.
