Nurse was also an assistant during the Casey years, so he had been on the team for a decade. If players are tuning him out and he's throwing people under the bus in the media and in his own tell-all book, you are left with no choice but to let him go. Masai basically had to do it to save his own ass anyways.

Did you hear Trents exit interview ? He basically said hes tired of Nurse bashing him in the media....

he's not a good coach
he's on the level as frank vogel who was also fired and is out there

y'all dont even watch raptors games and going off the odd raptor game on espn and tnt which when they lose, but doris burke will suck him off. "Nick nurse one of the best coaches in the nba, unorthodox style for running a box and 1 bla bla"

hes azz cheeks good riddance to nurse, his ugly azz suits and his garbage band
Coli dot com.
"Defrozen" "lol Casey" they get rid of both. Now it's "b-b-b-but why you trade him. no loyalty" "why they fire him"
Same shyt with Nurse now.

Nurse's schemes consist of selling out on trapping ball handlers, throwing out gimmick sets like box and 1s and triangle and 2s and hopes the other team is dumb enough not to know how to beat it by moving the ball.

This shyt got exposed by Billy Donovan of all people in that Play-In when all Chicago did was eliminate the PnR from their offense and had their scorers just isolate. Raptors were looking like some damn fools in that collapse. His "schemes" seemed like shock value shyt that may work sparingly but nothing to really bank on long term or in a series in 2023 and beyond.
You say this like almost every single defensive scheme can't be beaten by moving the ball or having an elite ISO scorer(s).

Coaches aren't magicians, they can't magically make players better, or beat a team with more talent or beat a team with less advantages. That's on the players, themselves. With the spacing in today's league, throwing out "gimmick" defenses is virtually what you have to do to have success on that end. Otherwise, you hope your organization has managed to acquire at least one generational defender to where you aren't forced into being elaborate on that end.

We've just seen BK endlessly throw doubles at Embiid throughout the 1st round, and although they're down 0-3, they've nullified him and kept him out of the contest (due to how whimsical his energy can become and his limited playmaking ability) and it's been their one and only fighting chance. It has diluted Philly's offense and brought them down to a relative level. Problem is, they've also got someone like Maxey who can get his in any situation and the Nets don't have anyone as capable to counter that. It's not like Jacque Vaughn can keep scheming players out of the contest.

I blame Scottie Buns for this. If he had developed the way everyone had projected including @Gil Scott-Heroin this woulda never needed to happen.
Why do you always tell on yourself?

You said Jalen Suggs is better.

Despite however flawed Scottie is, he's still infinitely better than that bum in Orlando who's managed to escape scrutiny because nobody pays attention to what the Magic are doing. I don't know who you think you're fooling with this.

he is a good coach...hope the lakers give him a look
masai gave him an atrocious roster

turns out the future of the NBA isn't 6'9 athletes who you can try to teach basketball late in life

You think lebron hates defense now what til Nurse got him doing cardio....

When did I say that?

I said Suggs will be an allstar (I still believe that) he’s just gotta stay healthy and get an opportunity.

I said I don’t see it with Scottie ( I still don’t)

Ironically I think both their careers would have been better off had been they drafted to one another’s respective teams…

I don’t see how a dude can win a title, get coach of the year & be “trash”. You Raptor fans sound delusional as fukk.

If anything the GM should be fired for labeling OG & Scotty as untradeable

I knew something was coming with the Masai press conference and Nurse outburst about his future which was u provoked let you know what time it was.

I management should be next because this whole roster of 6’8 guys who all do the same thing isn’t working. We need to do a rebuild ..

@Miggs @jdubnyce @MikelArteta @Guess Who and the rest of the raps gang, it’s a new day :wow:
Nurse, if we are being real, has some fatal flaws as a coach. Those things showed up in bright neon lights this year. Ultimately, the Raptors organization has always been about internal development under Masai and Nurse failed at developing any of our players over the last two years. Everyone regressed this season, the play style was ugly, the defensive scheme was nonsensical, the offence was iso-centric despite having poor isolation players, minutes were mismanaged on almost a nightly basis leading to late game collapses, and bench players were inexplicably moved in and out of the rotation. I knew he was gonna get fired by how long it took for Masai to schedule this press conference.

I also think he lost the room. Siakam doesn’t seem to vibe with Nick. Fred doesn’t seem to like how the team has evolved. Scottie, who is the hope of the franchise, seemed like a guy Nick didn’t really like that much. I’m sure Gary isn’t a fan of Nick. I imagine our young players aren’t a fan because they never get a chance to play consistently.

Which brings me to a point that was probably the dealbreaker for Masai. It’s clear that Masai feels that one or two of these g-league guys can play in the league. But whether or not they can play, we have spent two years not being able to find out because Nurse wouldn’t play them. And if Nurse doesn’t play them then they can’t be evaluated against NBA competition so it’s impossible to know if they should be moved or retained. Maybe some of those guys can develop well enough to add to a trade or make space to trade someone else? Who knows? We don’t. And I’m sure that this contributed greatly to the move.

Personally, I thought Nurse deserved a year or at least half a season to redeem himself but Masai and them probably had enough reason and enough history to make the move. I ain’t mad at it.

I hope whoever takes over this team can play the style suited to this roster…fast, uptempo, transition basketball with free flowing offence based on ball and player movement and switching everything on D (except for Poetl).

I still think that Nurse didn’t truly commit to the lengthy wings thing and I still believe it’s a strategy that can work. But even if it can’t, Nurse didn’t lean into it at all. Can’t keep your job if you don’t give the boss an opportunity to see if the experiment they’re trying can be successful. It just seriously undermines your boss’ ability to do their jobs.

I blame Scottie Buns for this. If he had developed the way everyone had projected including @Gil Scott-Heroin this woulda never needed to happen. Say what you want about Nurse but he’s had the weirdest most mismatched roster in the league the last couple years. When he’s had a squad the whole world knows what he can do.

Youre talking about the GOAT coach in Raptors history. The whole league studies his playbook. You don’t just let a guy like that go….but I get it he’s the most logical target. It’s easier than Masai having to actually get out there and work…he could have gotten some nice returns for his pieces but he’s like Ainge…he would rather win a trade than just get quality value. Vanvleet had a major down year…..Siakam is a stud but he’s not a number 1 and Buns is….well Buns. You can’t do much with that as a coach.

They hedged their future on Buns developing into that Kawhi void and ended up assed out when they realized he has no potential to be that guy.

I don’t see how Ime or any other coach is gonna fix those problems…
You don’t watch Raptors games.

Seems like a scapegoat move by the gm, cause that team has been mid as fukk since Kawhi left
Life comes at you fast I guess, champions with uriji and nurse getting hyped as some of the best GM and coach in the league to the team being in shambles and nikkas getting fired :picard:
And does Uriji always sound like he did in the press conference, don’t remember him sounding like he need a public speaking class. Breh must be nervous as shyt
I’ve met Masai in person—he’s got a lot of nervous energy in general. Probably has some anxiety in crowds.
