I was with you, but this is terrible logic. The value of money in the 90s was different than it is now. Besides, back then, having a physical copy and having a collection meant more. You can't just take the actual minimum wage and try to extrapolate that to now when the cost of every has gone up and yet wages have remained stagnant.
another thing rappers make themselves appear larger than original flashy nikkas, which to me is corny.....
bugatti's, ferraris, porsches, bentleys, lamborghinis.... thats what every rapper has (or claim to have) now.....
what happened to pullin out a clean audi, benz, bmw, or acura ? nikkas would relate and feel the music more if rappers wouldn't try so hard to make it seem like there on some jetsons shyt.... don't get me wrong u have some rappers who have it that level but most of them rap nikkas who act as if they do are fugazi.
n*ggas aren't the ones complaining tho.
that's the thing that renders this whole debate to being pointless.
the people that constantly complain about this are the people that these songs usually aren't geared towards.

this is nothing new.
and its nothing wrong with it.
you don't like, you don't buy.
why listen to those trashmen in the first place?
youre basically asking for it.
youre making a mountain out of a molehill.
if you don't like the chit, then don't rock wit it. plain & simple.
I can meet you halfway and say what ive been saying all along: that theres hasn't been any real diversity on the radio for a while. and as ive been saying for the longest, this is being done purposely in order to dumb down the genre and more importantly, to dumb down black folks.
but to get mad at certain rappers because theyre not making the type of songs that YOU want to hear is corny and is really just some bitter chit. I can see if youre mad at certain rappers that are proven to be capable of making more than just flossy songs, but that's just not in the cards for a lot of these dudes. a lot of the mainstream acts out right now are about as deep as a puddle. I can see that from right here.
The real issue is profanity, as long as fuk, bytch, nikka, sh*t are the foundation of every song there is a limited amount of subject matter you can deal with
Rap music has painted itself into a corner, I think the only way rap can flower artistically is if it gets out of the fukk, bytch, shyt, nikka paradigm
but that's just artistically, commercially rap music is dead, rap music grew big becuase it filled the worlds appetite for sex and violence and degeneracy, if rap music turned away from that it will increase the commercial decline of rap music
So my point is rap music is screwed no matter what
Its one thing to stunt, the thing is a nikka like Jay talking about checking the time on his Hublot in the South of France is so far beyond what an avg hood dude or even white teen who actually buys his shyt can relate to its like damn
Cause audi's,benz, bmw and Acura are all cars regular people have.... it aint about you "relating", it's about them being on another level than you.
unless you were on some throwback dopeboy shyt, that Acura Legend Coupe isn't flexing... it's just an old ass car.
we're at the point where rappers who don't even have major label deals have $70-80k whips, multiple homes, expensive jewelry etc.
y'all acting like Rap isn't a competition, you don't see cats talking about...
"Why Lebron gotta dunk from the free throw line? i'd relate more and like it if he just did a layup"

Many of rap's biggest selling albums are filled with violent content
Rap's popularity also peaked w/a lot of its violence
I know you want to force everything through your orifice of intellectualism but like everything else there is way more to it than you are trying to insinuate. White kids have always been rap's biggest customers and they have stopped buying rap for reasons that have nothing to do with the content. Not sure you noticed but music sales in general have been in freefall and have only recently begun to retrentch. Plus the digital age has enabled the few people who still buy music to only buy singles rather than whole albums. Etc. etc.
Combined, rap and hip hop started out selling $2.5 billion worldwide, but by 2009, their sales dropped to $1.3 billion, a 48 percent decrease in sales.
Every genre of music’s sales have decreased due to online piracy and competition from other media, but rap and hip hop took the biggest hit while pop, dance and rock were the least affected.
I think it has everything to do with it, I feel like Rap fans today are getting tired of the played out, "I got money, hoes and clothes" theme in mainstream rap..
That's why you seem niccas struggling to sell, while rappers with actual devoted fan bases like, Nas, K.Dot etc sell without a problem..
I remember at Rock The Bells last year during Cudi's show, he had a part where he started talking about how, "Fvck these rappers that talk about Ferrari's and Lambo's, we ain't got that shxt" etc and the whole crowd was with him on, it was crazy
I think these sterotipical, niccas like, Ross, Trinidad James, Meek Mill etc will be a thing of the past soon, labels are going to realize. That type of rap doesn't sell like it used to, then you see Cole, Drake, K.Dot, Macklemore doing nice numbers with not even half of the amount of promotion the others niccas have and there it is.
That constant "I'm better than you, got more hoes, money, and jewerly than you" raps are getting old as fvck, it's cool on a couple records but rappers be doing it throughout albums.
