It didn't fizzle out. She bowed out on her own and started doing music on the side cause of the acting. Then she fully gave up music
How can you bow out on your own and it being "on the side". If you go from year 1: 2x platinum, year 2: 1x platinum year 3: barely gold despite your biggest single.

:dahell:

It was after the third album in 02 that she didn't return and did that Eve series in 03 etc.

As usual, guys in here sticking up for Jay-Z.

Y'all definitely know if you got a new job and told your homie and they congratulated you, but added some slick stuff like this at the end you'd be moving different.

Her first 2 albums went #1. She was going crazy with that Gwen Stefani feature.
Jay was always an over competitive so egotistical dude. He was saying shyt like I'm not better than Big I'm the closest one about his head homie. It's just in bad taste. Like his ambition overrules his better judgement. Same way he waltzed into the NFL we that we done kneeling comment which was kind of a sleight at Kaepernick (who was Jay to decide that?)

Which is weird because Lil Kim/Foxy Brown/Da Brat went platinum, correct?
They all attached themselves to big male rappers in a way that other male rappers don’t do. Without tying themselves to a Biggie, Jay Z, DMX or JD, what would those numbers have been for them? Without attaching herself to Gucci and Wayne, Nicki has admitted she wouldn’t have been on at all.

Meg and Cardi are the only recent women I can think of that popped in the game without riding a top rapper coattail to get there.

You've gotta point. As far as I know did Queen Latifah attach herself to a big name rapper during the early 90s?

Eve had 3 really good albums before branching out into tv, movies and finally able to have a kid with her highly wealthy husband. I think she’s doing more than well and far better than some of her peers. I’d put her in a female GOAT rap category, especially since I burned her 2013 album completely from my memory.

You just repeated what I just posted with the first sentence. She was a bigger star because she branched out into other things. Musically, she was not a bigger star because that didn't help out much. Her very next album bricked with an Alicia Keys feature. This proves what Jay Z was saying. We all know female rappers have short shelf lives. I don't know why people are going so hard against that fact. There are only a handful of female rappers that were successful beyond the third album. Most didn't even get a third album before the label dropped them.
Not sure if somebody else mentioned already, but “Gangsta Lovin” was number 2 on the Billboard charts (back when being that high on the charts your music was actually tangibly heard) and the album sold a little more than 130K first week. Also, for anybody that actually listened to that interview, Jay didn’t even say what was in that headline, people just crumpled up some words and ran with it, which is why even has had to correctly a lot of people on her promo run currently.
