Sometimes the dialogue is a little grating, though it's realistic, and also the show is highlighting (and even satirizing? I think) social media culture/language, but what a fun show. It's probably better episodes are shorter, though I always find myself wanting to watch another. '

Issa Rae is such a immense talent.

I thought it was interesting, in some ways, how Mia talked about the "sponsor", as in she was surprised he didn't have feelings for her, when she clearly didn't? And always, always positions herself as a player, "seducing and scheming".

I am sure the show is not really intentionally touching on this, from what I see, but the fact that the methods and means , the equation, of her NY sponsor (and any sponsor really) are so close to approved and endorsed "mating rituals", plane ticket +dinner +shopping +hotel =sex there is room for confusion on both sides. Though clearly both people are under no illusion about what they are doing, Mia and NY guy.

I would argue that mating rituals go back hundreds of years, or at least a century, and 2022 or 2002, or 1982, people are following the same script. I know there is a lot of discussion about "worth" and "when women were women". but I personally don't align with those conventions.

Worthlessness, that's something I have heard from women before, who secretly felt like that, no matter their IG or alleged casual apathy about dating and relationships.

I have read a lot about dating apps/social media, and it's affect on people in general, the basic idea being that if you meet someone on an app, you will be less kind than if you met them through mutual friends, because of the social consequences.

The idea that a date, or one night stand, or whatever doesn't entitle to basic kindness is what I think should change. People come into these situations with a rigid mindset and me vs them mindset, plus a lot of entitlement, and I think that leads to a lot of mutual resentment.

Show would be solid without all the phone shyt. Hopefully if they get to season 2 they keep that shyt to a minimum Ike the Issa bathroom raps

Sex scenes in movies/tv/music videos, usually, and obviously porn, are heavily stylized, "real"sex scenes with non professional pornstars, would not really work. You have to kind understand that going in, suspension of disbelief, that doesn't undercut the material severely.

A lot of shows do try to show the awkward/unsexy/weird sex scenes, at least small moments, but overall they are going to go the more stylized route.
