I would have to ask why you are doing them.Yea you didn't tell me shyt. Hopefully someone in my age bracket can speak on it. All I have is 185 lb and I'm not focused on getting larger. I am 185 lb 5'9 and about 14% body fat

Grapplers need back strength. I have to be able to pick people up and do with them what I want so the raw off the floor strength comes in handy.I would have to ask why you are doing them.

I have a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so the need to take a lot of risks to get freak strong are not required
Deadlifts aren’t a back movement, it’s mainly the posterior chain.Grapplers need back strength. I have to be able to pick people up and do with them what I want so the raw off the floor strength comes in handy.
Thinking deeper I'm getting lazy with the weight routine so I'm using all in one exercises to maintain strength.
I'm just training, doing deadlifts, pull-ups, squats, assault air bike
I'm not Increasing weight just 185. I'll give cleans a try because yea the risk fir injury is thereDeadlifts aren’t a back movement, it’s mainly the posterior chain.
Just my $.02 doing Deads at those reps and weight with increases in weight are a waste of time and opens you up for injury.
Knowing your weight threshold is limited I would look into other movements like cleans
Feels good for overall body strength. I can only go by how I feel. I'm not a weight scientist.Deadlifts aren't notorious for building back size, and it's a given you aren't gonna build "freak strength" pulling 1x your body weight, but you got it old head.

I do 3 sets of 15 pull-ups.
Do you do any grappling training?
You told a man in his mid 40s to do heavier deadlifts. You got it, mane.
Not everyone irl or on here will be receptive of what I have to say, and that's fine. I don't get one red cent from tryna put people on so we'll call this charity work and keep it moving.
Just row in every angle imaginable (pause)Grapplers need back strength. I have to be able to pick people up and do with them what I want so the raw off the floor strength comes in handy.

Zero.
Seriously, deadlifting isn't inherently bad for your back just like jiu-jiitsu isn't. But if you taka a back fall or get hemmed up in a crucifix, that could be bad for your back, right?
Ego lifting, lifting with poor form, lifting with accumulated localized fatigue, etc. are all good ways to snap your shyt up.
Never increasing in weight is one of the surest ways to stay small and/or weak. There's also no magic injury-feee weight; creh I know snapped his pec up benching 2 plates, which was his warm-up.
There's prolly less than a handful of cats on here and NikeTalk combined pulling moar than the Sage but let them other folks tell it, if you go over 3 plates you'll fold in half.
Nah, heavy deads are what help me avoid back problems not get them.
I'm also not 40+ though so do what you will with this. /rant
@Serious @Gully Bull @trap101 @Starski
You told a man in his mid 40s to do heavier deadlifts.
I think you could have done a little Better.
Thank you for your time.
I haven't hit 40 yet but almost there (39 this year). You right. Dudes over 40 can't DL heavy. I'll let the old heads in the masters divisions know next competition I go to.
And if you only got 145 pounds worth of plates I can't imagine what you're doing for squats.
@xXMASHERXx Come get your mans.
I'm going for the fewest exercises to build overall full body strength. Not going for aesthetic build. Everything just needs to be reasonably strong to assist with grappling.I haven't hit 40 yet but almost there (39 this year).
@Mowgli why are you doing deadlifts and not rows? Deadlifts at that weight ain't going to do much for you and definitely ain't going to build your back the way rows would.
Thank you for tagging someone in.You right. Dudes over 40 can't DL heavy. I'll let the old heads in the masters divisions know next competition I go to.

Again deadlifts in those reps ranges is an application for Snap City membershipI'm going for the fewest exercises to build overall full body strength. Not going for aesthetic build. Everything just needs to be reasonably strong to assist with grappling.
I probably misspoke saying deadlifts were jusy for back because I'm using them as a full body exercise combined with the others I listed below
Deadlifts - 185 pounds. 15 reps 3 sets
Leg raised Pull-ups
Squats
Assault air bike
Brazillian Jiu-jitsu 3 days a week
I don't have a lot of time between family work and training for lifting so I really gotta get in and get out and maximize my time with the limited equipment thst i have..
A u bar an assault bike and 185 pounds....
