I mean it's w/e. Personally I don't know anyone who's remotely fit, with no back injuries, that has anything negative to say about deadlifts.
The lift itself is rather easy. The only downside is setting up. And even still, just using 145lbs can be entirely beneficial.
I can't picture, "fitness gurus" lying about a physical condition...
I can picture them lying, it's an easy out for why they don't do them, since Deadlifts are viewed as one of the quintessential lifts.
