Failed a 95percent 1rep attempt on back squat after half an hour of racquetball


My legs aesthetically are already good to go so I might just switch to heavy singles til end of the year :jbhmm:

To us lesser morals, it’s an ongoing dilemma.. full 6 pack or 405 squat

My quads ain’t even sore nor do I feel fatigued

Be in lifting purgatory brahs

On a less pressing note now that

Gonna focus on concentric part of the squat using the safety pins (forgot the name for it) as it appears to be a mental block that’s keeping me from upping my numbers

Several things.

Now, on to the shyt you actually asked about. :pachaha:

1) Your abductors are weak. Any squat viewed from the back (pause) tended to show your knees caving in (knee valgus), especially your left knee. That means your adductors have overpowered your abductors. Fix that.

2) As the other non-sages ITT mentioned you prolly need to bring your hands inside. I keep mine out but my wingspan is over half a foot longer than my height. If you don't have similarly long arms, bring your hands in.

3) You should be rotating your shoulders back or keeping them in place at the bottom of the rep. I saw several reps where you rotates yours in (i.e. brought your elbows towards the front of the body).

4) Were your shoulder blades locked in place before the eccentric (lowering) portion of each rep? Might help your traps to feel more 'engaged' if you can hammer that in.

5) It looked like you were looking down a lot. That was supposed to be all high-bar, yes? Make sure to be looking forward (not up) when squatting HB. When squatting LB your head should tilt down more because the angle formed between your quads and your shoulders is decreased.

- gonna have to figure something out for the abductors. My gym is a powerlifting gym they don't got the abductor or adductor machine. I've been reduced to those side kicks with the cables, but that may not be enough.

- thought I had the shoulder blades locked in, but probably not. When I'm coming up it is almost as if my upper body goes weak and I'm just "balancing" the bar at that point.

Looks like there won't be weight increases next week and it we will be dedicating time to technique...... The path to the Holy Land is not straight....The Whey has chosen to humble me this week.. :mjcry:

might have to take up the offer of the gym putting on the fundamentals on the four big lifts in 2 weeks.

Dude came into the gym smelling like he didn’t wipe :scust: the scent was so strong I could smell him 30 ft away. And I know it was him because I went in there and it was dead with no bad smells, then 45 min later he comes in and hops on the elliptical agitating that funk:scust:

2) :troll: Doesn't doing accessory work like that violate the principles of SL 5x5? :usure:

One of the weaknesses of SL5x5 is that it doesn't allow for "individual differences" i.e. the things that make each lifter different. You're just given 5 exercises, set sets/reps/progression, and told to make do. It works, but only for so long; how long is also going to vary from lifter to lifter in part because of weak points manifesting.


3) All that "Looks like there won't be weight increases next week and it we will be dedicating time to technique...... " shyt also conflicts with SL 5x5 training principles, which state you increase the weight as long as you hit all the reps. Unless you failed some reps/sets, you should be upping the weight.
