My older cousins and uncles..In and out of jail...cooking crack and bagging up In front of me..

Used to play 36 chambers and argue about who was the best on which track when I went to sleep and talking the same shyt when I was waking up for school.

In fact my uncle bought me a walkman and 36 on cassette and told me to pay attention to method man because "he was next" "he's gonna be the biggest star rap has ever seen" he would talk about method man to the point where people would leave the room..

And he was killed by police in a drug raid..

I kinda see what you're getting at but that's way too general and a blanket statement to make

Wise?

the same dude Ghostface made a classic track about?

man either way he probably wasnt wrong. ODB sounded like a pure soul who was into the whole 5 percenter thing before most of the other members were. but because of how life went down and how he got hooked to drugs, he lost himself and ended up being a caricature of himself, the drugged out crazy one.

in RZAs latest book, he said the last he saw of ODB, he grabbed the RZA and grabbed his son and made them watch himself smoke hard drugs .... afterwards he approached the RZA and said "i dont understand" ... 8 hours later dude was dead

to me that sound like someone pure and real that got caught up in the image and couldnt differentiate himself between the image he created

That part of Tao Of Wu had me fukked up yo..like that image is crazy.

Thanks. I never even knew that. I know Cowboy but had no idea he made a grand statement. Any links you can provide that show this?

That would explain why hip hop in the East went through a non-grimy period from like 89 - 93 until Wu stepped in. I just figured NY got tired of the West Coast outselling them because their music was catchier and more hardcore.

this was all prevalent after cowboy died.
the reason why krs was able to navigate above this is he took melle out in a battle.
Yet, he also took responsibility after larock's death in full total scope as an artist.
so, he was able to navigate without the scrutiny most artist faced content wise trying to emulate nine mm.
the Wu, after krs helped and aided to pretty much bust down every door administratively that could be smashed down for recording artist.
in a legal/admin situation the Wu is the greatest of all time

Please stop generslizing black people. Smdh

I know a hell of a lot of black folk who like some wu members were big kunfu heads esp coming from that era where we watched the old classics. Stop fronting and speaking for a race when expressing personal opinions.

So street nikkaz was only drawn to drug talk and can't relate to anything else? :snoop:

The other members aren't street cuz they weren't on the drug talk?

ODB wasn't a street nikka :heh:

Atrocious posting

For kids born in the 70s/early 80s ninjas and kung fu was the shyt! I always watched black belt theater after Saturday morning cartoons lol. Every kid did back then whether black or white.

Also ODB didn't need to talk about flipping keys in his music to be street certified dude was as real add they come. Just watch brooklyn zoo and once you're done with that peep bring the pain by method man.

The wu were all street nikkas, and the ideas they rapped about came from their minds. If they were street and fukked with that other shyt to rap about it, then what makes you believe other street nikkas wasn't fukkin with that shyt? Thread premise assumes all nikkas in the streets was 100% mafioso minded. nikkas was watchin saturday morning cartoons and that other shyt like everybody else. You're applying the mentality of the 2000-2010s fan to the 80's-90's hiphop fan.

Now if you said rae and ghost were the reason ignant nikkas fukked with wu tang then nikkas'll let you have that, but then you wouldn't have a thread:heh: How did you expect this thread to go really?

Breh you're wildin...back in the day dudes used to go to the city watch old Shaw Bros. flicks all the time. This is before Manhattan became a Disneyland esque corporate playground and tourist trap.

And all of the people in Wu were on some street shyt. Every last one of them. If I recall, Cappa was locked up for that first album which was why he wasn't on it.

I think you're trying to contextualize why Wu was popular back then by using the metrics for why somoene would be popular NOW when back then hip hop was a lot more pure, the art was a lot less corporate, and the image in general was a lot less polished yet people still fukked with it.
perfect.

Wu nikkaz all got cases/been in situations that 'street nikkaz' can relate to, so all that, "M-M-Man, them nikkaz be talkin about some weird shyt!" was just their way of saying they're idiots. I used to clown nikkaz in my hood, cuz they hated Wu with a passion, yet never could explain why :heh:

Street nikkas that bought Wu shyt bought ALL OF WU'S shyt...no matter what...some may have preferred Ghost in a way but street nikkas are not a monolith, either...Act like 75% of the Godbody nikkas you know weren't involved in some type of major G shyt....they gave all those nikkas airplay, knew all their lyrics. Street nikkas I knew that loved Wu loved the whole Wu at once. nikkas had their favorites but yo...nikkas love the Wu. PERIOD. From the OH to NY.
