R&B heads, how do ya'll feel about these new school, atmospheric female R&B artists?

These were nice, she reminds me of tweet. I'll check for her project, but lets be honest, she doesn't come close to looking how they want you to right now, so here ceiling is extremely low barring a sudden enlightenment by the masses and media to accept substance over looks in r&b again.
I hear what you're saying but true talent always overcomes the fakeness in the end. Especially when you got songs like this

you said tinashe has a good voice?

i like jhene, never heard that rochelle chick, but those joints were dope and i'm gonna check for her. sza is in a lane a lot of people actually in the electrosoul/downtempo genre do better, she's living on borrowed time off that TDe co-sign, i found her EP very uninspiring.

OP posted my main criticisms of r&b in general, it's like rap right now, carried by production & vibe and lacking content and talent (i.e. real singers). furthermore, there are only so many spaced out drug binge inducing, slit my wristst after making love songs you wanna hear, it will work for 1-2 artists, but there isn't space for all them. then on the other spectrum you have ratchet&B which is jarringly offensive. r&b is on struggle more than hip hop IMO.
There just isn't enough of new cats in the mainstream getting the green light to push it. I heard a 17 year old, sexy smut playing SWV "Weak" and some other songs and the market never left just on a drought right now. :yeshrug: But you're right, this new wave crap is unbearable. Even though Beyonce is in her ratchet phase, she can still sing.

I'm wondering why we even still use the term "rhythm & blues":dahell:.

How does anything we listen to fit under that discription.
It is an insult and labels purposely attach it to something that has been around forever to give away it is a fad. I said on TC before that it is an insult to use the term R&B for this music.

Nah. Not really. Its cool but they ALL put you in one mood...sleepy/drowsy in a drug state. Back in the day (and the music I still listen to) had records to fit you 24/7. Listen to my Lauryn Hill when I'm feeling ambiguous, your Monica when your nikka on your nerves, Brandy when you wanna vibe out, TLC when you wanted to dance to good music, Chaka, Whitney, Sade as well but I'm talking about the young girls. I like K. Michelle a lot though, Tamar, Jhene, Rihanna...but I know it's not timeless like the aforementioned.

Real chit, I've had Sade "Paradise" on repeat for the last couple days because that's how a nicca been feelin'.

I get it. I know that to be in the game today you have to be an..."artist" first. You gotta have your "package" and your "sound" figured out and all that. Fine...

...but i'll pass. In a way, I feel the same way about my singers as I do about rappers: you gotta be able to pull off the basics of the craft to make me care. I mean real talk - Keith Sweat is not gonna kill anybody in a sing-off, but if you put him on stage with a nicca playin' the piano, he can give you a helluva show.

Couple of other folks said it in here...muffuccas are just finding fine broads, setting them in front of us and telling us they're R&B singers, and they got no rhythm and ain't never felt no blues.

SZA's project 'S' is much better than 'Z' imo. But Rochelle Jordans project "PRESSURE" stayed in rotation for a while

Glad to see Rochelle getting her shine. Love her music. Go check out her album "Pressure". It was great. Looking forward to seeing what she will do next.

Joint dropped at the perfect time for me. "Somebody", "You Ain't My Man", "Could've Been", "Too Long", and Visions are my shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

Haven't heard much of SZA, but Teen Spirit captivated me heavily and I look forward to listening to "Z". I also find her to be extremely good looking.

Haven't heard a single Jhene song, but I have her EP and Mixtape on my computer due to recommendation.

Where would I start to check out Tinashe's music?

Random kinda since it has no female vocals, but I have a feeling some of yall might dig this song.

not really feeling it

Check out natasha khan then. Largely the same type of music (a bit more avant garde tbh) but has a very strong voice devoid of the effects.

first 2 tracks are trash....terribly mixed

out of all 'mainstream' artists......vocally Ellie Goulding
