I could care less about how much the band cost for me, it holds less significance than the girl with the ring. I just always wanted a rolex. For her, we were discussing finances and I need to get her sizing anyway. So I said well I won't be going out much in October, just watching football and maybe task rabbit on the side to make some more bread, then the subject of how much the ring and wedding etc.
This kind of directly ties to the post you quoted. As women rise in life, they get pickier about who the want to relate with.

I'm 39 and my wife is 31. My wife is humble and submissive and when she cared for me when i was sick was what made me look at her in a different light. I didn't care about no mba, no waterfront condo, no fancy car, no six figure job what alot of these women risers in life think are accomplishments to men. For men we are lucky that say even at 38, 39 you can still snag a 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 year old but for women you 35, 36 , 37, 38, 39 and yeah. I remember going out on a date when I was 37 with a chick who was 39. Literally first date and she's asking me if I want children, how long would we have to date before marriage etc. etc. , not saying all chicks are like that who are that age but yeah

Wanted to contribute this, based on last night and throw out another kind of debate point, so last night I was in a spot in TJ, it's a strip club but it is legal prostitution. and very very cheap. It's a famous place, and I know this scene well, rarely have gone as an adult, but roll with my boys sometimes while they do their thing, I just chill and watch the dancers, turn down girl after girl who approaches, which brings me to the point:
My boys are their own category, both can and do have no real issue meeting women, they are doing well financially, and all other things equal, well adjusted, in terms of looks, money. By most standards they are balling crazy hard. New 7 series, expensive watches. Businesses, properties.
so in this place, you see more women then you can imagine. From the crazy sculpted bodies of porn stars, 38DD, 40 inch ass, to the younger, natural ones, and everything in between. Probably over 100 women. Maybe 150. Essentially any one of them you can have sex with for $100 or $150. Model quality women, to the normal ones. So, there's this whole category of men from communities I know, who basically have given up on dating/sex/relationships. Mostly average looking, and above average/high to average incomes. Meaning they aren't broke or poor. They just go down there, sometimes 3X a week. You see them down there everytime.
and what happens is the sex workers/women, they work them. but it's kinda mutual. (my boys do this too) You have sex and establish some kind of communication, and then they keep seeing each other, next week, next month, whatever, they whatapp --on or off the clock, but mostly on. It becomes like a girlfriend of sorts, except obviously in this deeply transactional way. They say whats the point of dating if I can just come down here. This goes directly to the WSJ and other piece.
My homie and I were talking about it afterward, and they always wonder why I don't participate. and it's not for moral reasons, not really, and it's not the money, and he was saying well it's all the same. and I do truly understand skipping the pretense, also kind of struggled to really explain why it was different. but maybe if I need to explain it, there's too big a divide already. The best I can come up with this second, is a place like that streamlines everything into this very basically traditional system, with near zero barrier to entry but in that process loses, obscures, or blurs any real sense of intimacy, connection, or actual mutual desire.

I used to mess with the stripper and I bagged her because I didn't treat her like a stripper. I met her through a mutual so it was a little different but she pretty much told me she liked me because I didn't treat her like a stripper.
