Question: Why is it always held against Kobe that he played with Shaq when Magic had Kareem?

So Kobe gets graded on a curve now. :mjlol:

"LeBron/Duncan shooting 38% is even worse than Kobe shooting 25% cause Kobe's shooting is always worse!"

Yeah, those 1999-2007 Spurs, all sneaky and under the radar. :mjlol:

The 2005 Spurs and the 2007 Spurs were the title favorite both years, Duncan was a 2-time MVP and 2/3-time NBA champion, but Kobestan revisionist history says they were "under the radar" those years. :dead:

Not to mention the 2014 Spurs who were one shot away from a title the previous year, totally under the radar. :heh:

"Let's just ignore that Duncan's team lost 40% of its starting lineup and the Lakers added 40% of theirs." :mjlol:

The Spurs had to replace David Robinson with Rasho Nesterovic (6ppg on 39% shooting in the Laker series) and tried to replace Stephen Jackson with a raw Hedo Turkoglu (6ppg on 28% shooting in the Laker series). Those were their 4th and 5th options breh. :francis:

Call replacing a HOF player with a scrub "choking", coli brehs. :what:

Just like Duncan "choked" by getting a season-ending injury in 2000, by having Ginobli get hurt in 2008, and by scoring 41-15-7 in Game 7 in 2006, right? :skip:

Just like Iggy was the alpha clear cut best player on the Warriors who did it all himself too, right?

Shaq was obviously the best player on the 2000-2002 Lakers because Shaq was obviously the best player on the 2000-2002 Lakers. There are a LOT of ways to know that and the Finals MVP is only one of them. :childplease:
Not only was Shaq the best player on the Lakers he was the best player in the league.

And towards the final season of the Lakers 3 peat until Shaq went to Miami in ‘04-‘05, The argument for best player in the world was between Shaq and Tim Duncan

As a matter of fact from ‘03-‘07 one could say Tim Duncan was the best player in the league. With him and Shaq battling for that title from ‘02-‘05

I fukk with Kobe too but these nikkas are delusional

No you’re delusional. Tim Duncan was never considered the best player in the league at any point of his career. He is great but more of a system player. Post any quotes from players or people around the league stating he is the best player in the league because I don’t ever remember hearing any all time greats saying that. So feel free to find them :sas1:

nikka Tim Duncan was the system

The Spurs never won a single championship before TD was drafted, he changed the whole outlook of the Spurs and turned them into the most successful small market NBA franchise ever. Popovich ain’t win anything before TD and he ain’t gonna win anything after him despite having a superstar talent like Kawhi at the helm and several other all stars.

Kobe is an all time great who is respected across the board, but he never impacted a franchise to that degree as the de facto #1 player. All that other shyt you’re asking for is some sentimental popularity contest bullshyt.

How can you finish 2nd, 1st, 1st, 2nd in the MVP vote in four consecutive years and not be considered the best player in the league? Especially when you are the dominant star of 4 title teams in 8 years (2 of which had no other all-stars) during that same stretch? :dahell:

2005 GM survey: 58% of GM's predicted that Duncan would win the 2006 MVP, 40% of GM's said that if they could start a franchise with any player, it would be Duncan: NBA.com GM Survey: Best Players

(Also notice that 64% of GMs said that Shaq is the player you have to make the most adjustments to face. SHAQ is the one teams adjusted for.)

The links to the earlier surveys are broken, but if about half of GMs were calling Duncan the best in the league even as late as 2005, then he definitely would have had some propping him up in 1999-2004 as well.

It's hard to do a quick internet search for "who called Duncan the best 20 years ago?", but a quick search made it clear that so many people thought of him as the best, you could just drop it in a news story as if it were assumed:

New York Times in 1999 suggesting Duncan is already the best in the league: 1999-2000 N.B.A. PREVIEW; The West Is Still the Best

Seattle writer in 2003 calling Duncan one of the most dominant in history: Duncan's artistry in the NBA Finals

Warriors broadcaster in 2007 saying Duncan is the best hands down: Steinmetz: Duncan’s the best — hands down

:why: The spurs made it to the WCF like a year after he retired and have been in the playoffs every year since. They also won their last title in spite of him being washed. Tim Duncan was great and the best pf ever but he benefited from being in one of the goat systems his whole career. He is not in the top 10 all time stop it!

Myself
Lakers don't even get to the 2000 finals without Kobe's game 7 WCF performance. Plus Phil relied on (a young) Kobe to keep the team motivated and hungry for a 3-peat, while the "engine" was lazy and uninspiring as fukk.

It's no mystery that Shaq has never won shyt before or after Kobe (ignoring the "gifted" 2006 title).

Shaq and Kobe were gifted a WCF:yeshrug: If we hold both events to the same standard, both Kobe and Shaq have 1-2 less rings, and this OP doesn't matter

I agree he's benefited greatly from Pop and the Spurs system but Duncan't is a Top 10 all time player.

The NBA almost gifted a WCF to the Kings when they stretched the series to 7 after game 2. Stern didn't want another 15-1 playoff run. :francis:

That’s why the Lakers making in the finals in 1991 imo Was Magic’s greatest work as an NBA player. That Laker team had no business being in the finals but he somehow willed a rookie Vlade to become his number two guy during that “magical” playoff run. All without Kareem or a healthy Worthy or Scott.

Even though I disagree with them, I don't have a problem with those who feel Duncan't was better. Just those who are of the "nowhere near" ilk
