When you put it that way everything sounds anti social. Going to a concert to stand around listening to music not being able to hear other people. Going to an arena to watch a game waiting for your team to score.

Movies are social because like those other events you go with friends or you meet like minded people there.

Sitting in your house talking over a head set is the lowest form of social interaction.
None of those activities do they request silence like the movies. They literally tell you no talking. lol

There’s no going back. I don’t know who these execs are but making movies longer—- when our attention spans and all other media are getting shorter—- is killing theaters. Like bruh a comedy buddy cop movie doesn’t need to be 2 hours and 20 minutes :snoop:

Pure greed. The move for longevity would be shorter movies and lower prices. Instead they’re trying to make up for less movies with longer movies, longer previews. Higher prices. It’s going to make them money in the short term but kill the entire industry long term.

Ie cabs being destroyed by Uber. Blockbuster by streaming . When you have a monopoly and you take advantage, and don’t address the gripes people scream about, it WILL come back to bite you. New technology will fill that void and make you a dinosaur
Isn’t that the opposite?

If it was for greed, they would make shorter movies( more screenings per day).

Nah. Movie goers are partly to blame. Nerds in particular because as superhero movies become more popular, shorter movies became seen as less quality. Same as lower budget.

X-men being 75 million and a 1:45 runtime would be fans screaming about the studios not touching on the expansive Shi’ar/ Dark Phoenix story in under 2 hrs.

Golf and Tennis literally tells you to stay quiet to not distract the players

You go to a comedy to laugh. The whole point of horror movies is to scream and yell. That’s part of the communal experience

he does bring up a good point

half of those ryan reynolds films i never heard of, and this is someone I actually enjoy

whens the last time a studio put out a gun-totting action/thriller film like Heat or Face Off? That used to be a staple in the early/mid 2000s, with films that each set themselves apart storywise. Even by late 2000s we still saw joints like Safe House or Salt, both of which headed A list actors and gave you a good dose of action and espionage. You dont reeeeeallly get these kinda joints anymore without it being a CGI-mess or its led by an actor that isnt that good. Joints like John Wick keep the genre alive tho.

OK, you can lump those in with the movies as being the most passive form of social activity.
My older sister when I started asking girls out told me take them to the movies if you don't want to talk. lol

I get what she’s saying..but the social aspect that sets movies apart is that a good/bad movie creates the social interaction. Picking a movie gives you information( genre they like, anctors, other movies) about someone you are dating.

Even if you don’t talk during the movie with a date, what are you talking about on the drive home, shopping, or the dinner after. The movie.

The nature of going to see some sports/ concerts doesn’t really lend itself to going out after. You drink alcohol and eat during the game. It’s an all-in-one experience.

I'll put off watching a streaming movie for weeks or months. It's something I have to get around to watching.

I'll usually save it for an occasion. There's no pressing need to watch any right away as they almost never leave the service.

I'm sure services have data on how soon people watch movies versus how heavily they're promoted.

It's just a different activity vs going to the theaters.

Glass Onion was really big though.

Hes correct. I was saying the same shyt when it started. Everyone in here wanna seem upto date and shyt but what movies has streaming brought that are must see? Last one for me was the irishmen and that was years ago.

Like i dont know one movie over at apple+. I will see killers on flower moon in theatres. Idk one other movie they got. Never will see any of em. Paranoumt+ as well.

Streaming movies are big for a week at most unless its a realllllly big picture. Will never see them unless you get the app. And im not paying for cable AND 6 apps.

Films are hurting rn. Imagine if mario was streaming. What a loss that would be. MCU is burning out crazy fast and wont do avengers numbers again until xmen come in. The shows have ZERO replay value and barely get peoples attention as is. Same for star wars. Mando season 3 zero hype compared to 1-2. I didnt even know it came out when it did. Noone cared.

Streaming is killing films like napster killed music. Just like how rappers now gotta release 3 albums a year just to stay afloat, same happening with films.

Art on a whole is dying. Every medium is lackluster compared to the past.
Actors cant rven make a living anymore they doing a hundred movies at sag rates just to stay afloat.

I literally just tutned on netflix for the first time in a year to watch the arnold show. Started in morning. Done by afternoon.

Back in the days the rental and retail reups allowed studios to recoup and risk so they could afford to be creative. The new model is convenient but the downside is you are stuck with a lot of generic ish.

A hot VHS could run the game for a few seasons as the tills rang at different stations. That and there is way too much noise to signal these days. Some unknown heat would percolate and become a classic in due time, with streaming it'll vanish in the crowd.

I would say going to the movies is the lowest form of social behavior. Leave your home to go to a dark room and watch something with people but mostly in silence is social? Barely IMO.
You usually have to add a real social activity like getting a meal or drink before or after to make it social.
You're supposed to yell loud as f*ck all through the movie during the good bits to create a sense of togetherness breh :comeon:

What on earth are you talking about :heh:

Going to a movie is the worst date for someone new. The movie you go to tells you nothing. Bc you only got like 3 choices anyway :heh:

You also forget to take into account that you don’t have unlimited time. A movie is a 3 hour commitment. 3 wasted hours the date might be over after that.

Also, you wanna talk about real shyt. Not small talk around a movie. If the info you go glean from your new date is types of movies and genres she likes that sounds bor -iiiiing :russell:

You're not supposed to. People do it but it is actually the opposite of encouraged. And really that's blockbusters only. Go to some art house shyt and talk to the screen, you will get shushed the fukk outta there. lol

3 choices?

What time are you from? The 1920s? :russ:

It’s 2023 playboy. they release an average of 6 movies every week. Even the 1950s style drive thru near me plays 3 new movies.:heh:

Are you a robot? Even on this forum, a thread about one Marvel movie turns into a 20 page discussion every Marvel movie released since BLADE. You are just a terrible conversation :umad:

The line between quality of movies has blurred and released in larger volume.

Hollywood has always released low budget trash.

A lot of the original stuff on Tubi would have been straight to video that you couldn’t find in Blockbuster. You would have to go to the video stores that catered to that junk.
